Bentley Turbo R - My Passion
Discussion
Hi Jonathan
Thank you for your kind words. My situation has sadly deteriorated having undergone three more operations since the original post. But my passion for 'Hatty' has never ceased. Such joy is priceless. That said, being practical has to be the order of the day, therefore I am in the process of trying to find 'Hatty' a new home.
I hope you get the same pleasure from whichever Bentley you acquire. I wish you happy, safe and pleasurable motoring. Savour every second. When she calls you from within, hesitate not and take her out.

Hi Waffa,
I've just read this thread and what a pleasure. May I wish you luck with your health travails, you certainly have a very positive attitude which I know helps. Sorry to hear that you're losing Hatty, but the memories will live on in your memory and I hope she finds another doting owner.
Best of luck in the future.
Brian

A 'Hatty' update.
Having advertised 'Hatty' I did receive several calls about her, but to no avail. There are quite a few dreamers out there. Which means I still have her company in my life. I suspect it is now too late in the year to sell, but who knows.
I took her out yesterday and had a drive out along part of the North Wales coast, just beautiful it was too.
Sitting on the rear arm rest is Bentley 'Birkin' Bear. Each side of the arm rest are a full set of St David's Hospice teddy bears. It's interesting sitting having a coffee and people watching, as they look at 'Hatty' then see the bears in the rear. Some faces are smiley, some sad. You can see people commenting on the bears with some giving each other a hug as they walk away. I don't know what that tells you, but it tells you something.
I got a real buzz yesterday having put her back into the garage. There she was sitting up straight and proud having given me pleasure beyond value. I melted.
Nothing more need be said!

Hello Everyone
I've had no luck selling Hatty. I've tried Auto Trader and Cars & Classic etc, but had the usual dreamers, tyre kickers get in touch. So, as my hospital trips are getting more frequent (I was there last week for several days for treatment), I need to hasten the sale, therefore I'm thinking a car auction might be the way to proceed (needs must as they say). Has anyone got a suggestion as to the best car auction house for me to place Hatty into? I live on the North Wales coast. Are there any particular auction houses that maybe specialise in selling Turbo R's? Any help/advice would be very much appreciated, thank you!

Have you tried the PH Classifieds? Alternatively, rather than send it to auction, is there not a reputable dealer that you could place the car with on a sale or return basis. This should net you a liitle more cash. Obviously if the sale is urgent, this isn't an option. You may laugh, but with the right photos and description, eBay may generate you more than a traditional auction after the fees. Best of luck.

I would really only use the auction houses as an absolute last chance saloon, as these cars seem to do very poorly on price in them, particually after commission etc.I've had no luck selling Hatty. What figure have you had her advertised at?
I may be able to put her into the trade for you? ( wouldn't be looking to make profit, just offering assistance)

I think Ebay is a very good selling platform for cars now. It has a much better functionality than the Autotrader website and much better search facility. I think Autotrader needs a serious update. So I would try Ebay, but I think it is just a fact that these cars are slow movers. If you really wanted to try Auction, you could try Brightwells classic auction, they would probably accept a Turbo R into this. They are based in Leominster in Herefordshire and have built a good reputation as a classic auction house over the last few years. In July they sold this car:

which I know is a different car to yours, but it is the same era. It made a maximum bid of £27,000, reserve not met, but a deal was done after at a bit more, I believe - I'm guessing around £30,000+buyers premium - which I think was top money for that car, even in the condition it is. I know it is now advertised at £42K, but the dealer in question seems to just sit on his stock, for years if necessary.
But I think Brightwells would be worth a try.

She'll make £3-4K at auction, maybe £5K or so if you are stupendously lucky. Ideally a private sale to a good home in the region of £8-9K, but that's easier said than done. As you know, I didn't get a sniff on mine either.
It's a tough market for these cars, there's almost nobody around prepared to pay proper money for a good un, which ironically, if you're in the market for one, is exactly what you should be doing. Cheap snotters seem to buy & sell readily, folks have their 6 month fix, get it out of their system and then move on. But a buyer prepared to commit to a long term relationship with the right car is a rare thing.
I hope you find her a good home and I hope POORCARDEALER can sort something out for you.
I think this must be Hatty:

Looks like bargain of the decade. If only I had more garage space...

That's kind of you, thank you!
You are most welcome.Kind regards

PS My father has decided, due to his health concerns, to sell his Contintental GT Mulliner after 5 years of ownership and he is sad to see it go. On a positive note he has decided to keep his Turbo RL as he is very attached to it. The RL is approaching 170,000 miles and is not worth anything other than great sentimental value
