Hi Forum,

I have a 1993 Continental R which I believe was originally fitted with 16" wheels. I want to fit a set of 18" five-spoke Continental T wheels (image below), which are shod with the correct Pirelli 285/45 x 18 tyres.

At the moment, with no spacers, the inner rims of the front tires rub against the suspension frame at full lock. I've been told I need to fit spacers on the rear wheels, and possibly need a heavier duty Conti T steering rack (part no UR73416SXR on flyingspares), which has a tighter lock, to sort out the front.

Is this correct? And is this generally a doable plan, or are the T wheels on a 93 Conti R going to be a problem?

I'm thinking any modifications I need to do might be similar to the modifications needed to fit Conti T wheels on a Turbo R, which I see a forum member has done.

Many thanks.

Adam

I stand to be corrected, but if I recall they were the wheels fitted to the "T" wide body, rather then the standard "T" this maybe part of the problem you are having trying to fit them onto your "R"

Adam, did you ever make the switch? I have been looking for those wheels as well. Thanks, Tom

They will fit with 255's but not 285's. I had a set on my 1990 Turbo R, killed the ride, but improved the grip and turn in.

I did make the switch. I ended up putting 245s on the wheels and it's good. No doubt not as smooth a ride as the original wheels but worth it for the way the T wheels bring out the shape of the car. Maybe next time I'll try 255s. smile
