Creaking and ticking
Discussion
Good evening all
First post on this forum, so firstly - hello!
Bought an R56 2007 Cooper 8 weeks ago. Very happy with the car as it suits my needs perfectly. However, 2 slightly annoying issues have developed since I picked it up -
1) What I would describe as an almost constant ticking noise from either the roof lining or the sunroof. Have oiled / greased / sprayed all moving parts and also added some neoprene strips to try and ensure a tight fit but still the ticking continues (one seems to be almost right above my head - particularly irritating)
2) Within the last 2 weeks I seem to have developed a creaking / vibrating noise when going over bumps or rougher road surfaces, that I think is coming from the dashboard on the passenger side. All seems a tight fit between dash and windscreen, and certainly no obvious movement.
Any ideas? Sound similar to any other problems? Any help much appreciated.

Am sure someone with an R56 will be able to help. Is it all the time or just when plastics are cold? Have you tried the plastic around the base of the gear lever? Also passenger seatbelt clip hitting or rubbing against plastic side pillar.
Some of the central interior supports are known to creak a bit, mine was ok for 2 years, but noticed more and more now, worse in the cold until the car warms up.
Good luck sorting!

Roof noise generally is all the time.
Dash I've tried with the heater on and off and generally doesnt seem to make a difference. I did wonder earlier whether it was the rear view mirror / sunroof control panel in the roof lining that was making the noise, but now not so sure!
Generally quite annoying - and does seem to have got worse in the short time I've had the car.
Seatbelts I've checked and fastened down front and rear so I know that those are ok.
Will try and have a further good look around at the weekend.....

I loved the look of sunroof on my R56 MCS (and driving the car with it open) but the incessant creaking sadly ruined it for me, so when I swapped to the JCW I didn't tick that box on the options list. Still found it creaked a fair bit from the dash though... Worse after I took it in to get it looked at TBH, I suspect the stiff suspension ends up shaking things loose!
I think that I have the same problem on my 2011 R56 Dooper. Try pushing the front windcreen forwards by the rear view mirrow and you will get the noise (and be shock at the amount of deflection). The shell flexes and the screen moves rubs on the top seal.
My dealer has tried fixing it twice, but it still does it.
