My 2012 cooper S seems to be losing a small amount of coolant. Upon inspection I noticed that the part below (the silver bit, a sensor of some sort?) was wet with the engine running, and seems to have staining on it. It's connected to a hose that goes to the radiator?

What is the bit in question? Could it be the cause of the leak? Is it an expensive part?

Tia for your help,

James

Hi

Not sure what you are pointing to in the picture, but my plastic thermostat housing gave up the ghost at about 50k miles. It is a known weak point on the R56 MINIs.

Mine cost about £200 to replace (parts and labour) at BMW.

Hi Mike, thanks for your help.

I have attached another picture with some bits annotated for clarity, its the silver metallic bit that i have circles in red that seems to be the offending item. This could well be the thermostat housing, i am not sure!
