What's your issue with the f56 cars?

I love the GP's but they don't have the nicer multimedia interface. It's a shame as I don't need 4 seats.

I would suggest that £16k would be more than enough for a mk2(r56) JCW, I own a challenge 210 and personally wouldn't go near another F56 unless walking wasn't an option.

Up your budget slightly and you can pick up a nice GP2 like this one...

Why what's wrong with the f56 for you?

To be honest, as a car to nip the shops in and do a bit of light hooning the F56 is fine. I am just frustrated with mine, 11 dealer visits(two wont accept my car anymore), 6 call outs by MINI breakdown and that's just the reliability and build quality(whoever lines up the panels needs better glasses).

Comparing the R56 and F56 is like comparing a R56 to a F20 BMW because that is pretty much what they are. The steering isn't as good as the R56 for feedback, the gearchange is a bit sloppy, who the hell thought the cars need an "eco" mode or dual zone climate?
Not to mention the loss of the center speedo and other nods back to the classics and the amount of oversights by the design team is incredible. Most notable is the roof. If you get into your car and don't close your door fast enough with any water on the roof, it will drip down and soak your leg, seat and the floor. The pillar-less doors also have problems with smearing the side windows when you lower them into the door and back up again. A problem which has been with all ages of MINI, but if you are paying £20k+ you would expect this to be fixed.

F5x cars don't really drive like a MINI should(imo). The fun of a MINI is the ability to grab it by the scruff of the neck and the F56 just doesn't encourage it and mine positively discourages it by the amount of understeer.

Yes the materials are a bit better, the seats are comfier and the switchgear feels more premium, however if you want premium switchgear and materials, buy a BMW! Its why 90% of group tests dont include a mini or rate it highly, because its just not as good as they used to be. If you want a car which is fun to drive, the R56 is a better shout for me.

Before you ask, I bought mine not knowing the majority of the above and discovered most over the past 18 months...

I will watch out for some of those things then. Re the gear change your right I don't like it either so I got an auto and it's much better imho being able to flat shift is great but i just use it in manual mode most of the time. Mines been in the dealer now for 1 week of 3 weeks of ownership and it looks like they will have it for yet another week. This is a paint issue tho as the dealer painted the front and rear diffuser and intakes red to sell it after they were black when it was there demo car yet they painted it like a toddler so it's getting repainted now for the third time !
