Looks like BMW are finally getting around to a full production variant of the 3-door hatch, and it will be built in the UK with the drivetrain (motor + batteries) imported from Germany. They have announced a shift over to electric/hybrid, with a £245 million investment in battery research in the UK and plans to electrify their full range

Good news that it will be led by the 3-door hatch (the hybrid is currently only available on the larger Countryman model). I was surprised that, after the effort BMW put into the electric Mini E test in 2009/2010 that the technology appeared in the i3 rather than the Mini (a range that, to my mind, targets a similar market segment).

What do you think? Would you consider buying an electric 3-door hatch?

Then there is the Superleggera concept that might resurface in the promised electric form. Is Mini about to get interesting again?

Yes I will consider buying one if range 200 miles plus and a lot cheaper to buy than i3 for private customers.

They might want to sort out the poor reliability and iffy build quality of the petrol models before introducing an electric version.

The electric one will be over £30k so most of them will be leased.
