Hey there,

I’ve got a new Countryman arriving in November and it’s the first car I’ll have had with wireless charging. When I had the demo car for the weekend I noticed my iPhone 6+ was too large to fit in the cradle housed within the arm rest.

Has anyone with an oversized phone managed to successfully charge using the wireless facility or do people just resort to plugging in through the USB?

I’d like to replace my 3 year old iPhone but unsure of the model and this answer will form a very small part of my consideration in which model to go for.

Cheers

The iPhone 8 & X have support for wireless charging as do the Samsung S8 the iPhone smaller iPhone 8 may fit better if you want to compromise on the screen size for the sake of convenience on that few occasions you want to charge it

Cheers, I have a 7 as a work phone and prefer the larger real estate offered with the plus versions but feel a compromise is coming somewhere down the line.

I’m not going to make a decision solely based on if it’d charge wirelessly in the car but if there’s a solution from someone that has managed it I’d be keen to hear.

Hi Jonobigblind,

Did you have success adapting the wireless charger to your iPhone 6+?

I am in the same situation with iPhone8+ :-(

THX!

Hey there, no I haven’t found a solution so the cradle just goes unused. Fortunately the battery on my 8+ is great and the sat nav on the car is much better than the Merc so I rarely use my phone.

Maybe a bit of apple car play for the music but there are two USB slots so a charging cable will be handy enough if required. The slot in front of the cup holders is plenty big enough to dump the phone and forget about if for the journey. A marked difference from my last car when I relied on it for everything.

Hey! thanks for your reply!

I will have my new car at beginning next week :-) maybe, depending of my crazy head, will do some handmade like cut the bottom platform of the wireless adapter...

No worries, let me know if you manage it and hope you enjoy the motor!
