Whats the name of the warranty company, most provide cover for ECU's, although there is the possibility it would be reduced based on age and mileage.

With regards to the dealer, they don't have to offer any for of warranty, however they do need to meet there legal obligations which means they have to sell a car that does what it says on the tin.

So irrespective of the warranty they should be doing more. However it sounds like they are not that interested in helping, so either be prepared for a battle, pay the bill yourself or find a compromise between the two of you

Plenty of breakers dealing in mini parts now. One local to me in Leighton Buzzard.

You could try talking to them and getting a price for a 2nd hand ECU, see if that is a cheaper option to fix.
