Having read numerous threads about the F56 Cooper S on several forums, I wondered what the real world performance figures are for the MCS.

On this thread, one member measured his stock MCS @ 201,4 bhp / 312,5 NM

Evolve also measured their MCS@ 214 bhp (!!) according to their youtube video.

Are these two examples of over reading dynos or are F56 Cooper S known to produce more than the quoted 189 bhp?
I know that the BMW B48 engine that is also available in 228; 248; 255 bhp form with very little modifications, afaik.

Can others confirm that the official figures are rather conservative?

Dyno's are for high performance cars, its just a little shopping car to most people I would've thought.

hehe ok, fair enough!

But I'm sure, some people even take their shopping trolleys to the dyno! Some even want their shopping trolleys to be faster teacher
I'm just curious whether they are known to produce more power than it says in the brochures.

thumbup

I do believe they tend to produce more power from what I've seen from video's, and it would be good if someone could confirm it. smile

To bring some scientific data (or so) into the equation, I'l attempt to do a list of dyno runs from stock F56 Mini Cooper S.

Brochure numbers are 189 bhp / 207 ft-lb (192 PS / 280 Nm)

  1. 201,4 bhp / 312,5 NM
  2. 214 bhp
  3. 185 bhp / 199 ft-lb @ the wheels ! (aprox. 215 bhb @ crank)
  4. 210 bhp / 221 ft-lb
If you find any more results, please copy and do post here.
Although four cars are not representative for the 100 thousands built (probably), I think it's fair to say they are rather more powerful than advertised!

They all need to be read on the same dyno for comparison - not that accurate a comparison otherwise

To be scientifically accurate, Yes. But since this not feasible (unless someone brings a rolling road to a Mini event), this is the best we can come up with.
It is a tendency I'm trying to illustrate.

BTW
That is very, very nice 550 you have there!!! My favorite modern Ferrari, period.
I saw one just last week. It was one in a dark grey with that lovely cuoio interior cloud9
