Buy the best you can and check the roof works, the cables can split.

Mini clubs, you have the East Coast Mini Club, i'm a member but never get time to go on anything.

This little guide by GTT is reasonably accurate. The Gen1 Tritec does use oil but it is not in the same class for that as the Gen2 R56 Prince engined cars. The Chrysler engine and the Getrag 6 speed boxes are solid as rocks.

Oil leak - The most common oil leak is actually the crank position sensor, then cam cover and sump gasket.

There are things that are 'for life' and not designated as service items ...... that aren't. Fuel filter, gearbox oil, SC oil.

They are a bit of a PITA to work on as being so compact and quite complicated everything seems to be 'behind' something else. Folk talk glibly about "put the car into front end service mode" (for example, to renew the 50p O ring on the afore mentioned crank position sensor). I looked for a button or a code setting to set this mode. But no, it means this:

I couldn't agree more, however I have found (since I resigned myself to it being easier in the long run) that it is amazing how quickly you can actually get it in front end service mode when you have done it a few times.

Also the removal of the front sub-frame for major front end suspension work is a remarkably easy step when you just resign yourself to the fact that it is so much easier when you are there.
