Mrs is looking for a new car so I test drove a Cooper D from one of those car supermarkets today. It was lovely apart from the clutch which seemed to have a high bite point and therefore a bit of a pain in traffic. Salesman did the usual “they all do that, Sir” but I’m not convinced. Is it indeed a ‘feature’ of this model?

The car has done 45,000 miles and my guess is that the clutch is on its way out.

The simple answer is to try another then & compare.

Everyone's definition of high could be different, but my guess is you could be right, they are auto adjusting & therefore should always be at the same biting point throughout their life until the plates are getting to the end of their life when there is no adjustment left.

I thought the clutch on Mrs Ralphs R60 was high, 30k more miles and it's still in the same place.

<edit>R60 is a Cooper SD ALL4</edit>
