I’m looking at buying this bargain mini which is cat N lightly damaged. How much do you think it would cost to repair? I’m wondering if the dent could be beaten out or do you think the bonnet would need replacing?

Or would you just avoid it altogether? I don’t want to take on something that’s a bit out of my depth!

not a huge amount involved in that dent , have you inspected the car to check it hasnt dented that as a result of spinning around and hitting the wheel on the other side or such like

Couple of things to consider:
1. It will always be Cat. N, so future resale is also lower.
2. Check you can get it insured as cover is harder to find, and thus more, on recorded vehicles.

Well given that it’s a write off, the repair cost will be similar to the value of the vehicle.

Thats not the criteria for writing it off.

They'll factor in what they can recover for the salvage value of the car and also what they'd have to pay out for courtesy cars etc if repairing the car.

On top of that they will have to use brand new genuine parts, and replace not repair even minor damaged parts. And then paint it to manufacturers warranty standards.

As a rough rule of thumb, if they're seeing a bill bigger than 50% of the value of the car, they'll write it off.

That looks like an F56 so 2014 onwards?

I'd be looking for a second hand bonnet for that. You could be lucky and get one that colour. Would bolt on.

To the point where it could even be driven as is until the right colour bonnet came up.

In fairness you could remove the worst of the problem at least to tide you over until a same coloured bonnet came up, but thats maybe a £6,000+ car. For the sake of £100-200 for a second hand bonnet i'd be sticking one on.
