We ran a 2015 Mini Cooper S for 3 years and liked it enough to trade in for a new one. The only significant difference between the models is that the new one has a 7 speed twin clutch automatic box. However the characteristics of the cars are very different. In Mid mode the new one is sluggish. To me it feels like turbo lag. The dealer insists all is Okay but I’m having to drive in Sport to get any meaningful performance. But Sport is too 'on' and simply wrong in city traffic.
The new car 'adapts' to your driving style apparently.
It hasn’t taken the hint that I want it to be more responsive.
Any thoughts?

We’ve got a 2018 Clubman Cooper S with the 7 speed ‘box, and I’d agree it needs to be in sport to be really responsive in any situation...otherwise it doesn’t always feel like it’s got 190odd BHP. Though, on longer journeys it does seem to get more responsive in mid mode. Unless I just adapt my driving style confused But, I prefer it to the 8 speed ‘box in the demo car we had for the weekend last summer as the actual gear changes are much sharper I think. Though, it did replace a short lived new shaped Ibiza with the DSG box, so maybe I just like the characteristics of that sort of ‘box!! I specced adaptive dampers mind you, so it can have a ‘sports’ drivetrain and a comfort chasis, which are the settings it’s used in most.

The DSG Audi TTS I had was the same, it seems for reason that twin clutch gearboxes and 2 litre turbo engines don't make for a great partnership annoyingly. The TTS was comically laggy at times, and its the first and last dual clutch gearbox I'd have. I much prefer full autos in comparison.
