New (to me) car, f56

Car now turned 83k miles, another MOT done, nothing needed. Down to 57mpg with my much shorter commute, contuies to delight!!

Nice. It is an odd conundrum (well not really!). My fuel economy has dropped by about 10% since COVID. I am not commuting as much, so most my journeys are short now - dropping the kids at various events. The mpg figure going down concerns me, but I am saving £20/ week in fuel costs....

Just about to turn 90k, and thanks to a new anti roll bar link and front brakes now drives as well and as rattle free as the day I got it. Longest I've kept a car, given the current climate I'll just keep it till it falls to pieces. Still have a hankering for an aftermarket cruise control and a remap but life gets in the way at the end of every month and by about the 5th am skint again!!

Another year gone by, another MOT, needed a front tyre so had two fitted, tracking done, oil, air and diesel filters changed along with oil, 97k now, had it since 44k, am second owner. Longest I've kept a car, four years now

Had my first problem the other day, no clutch. Just lost the pedal, no previous problems, no slipping, but it just wouldn't go into gear. Sterling service from the AA who recovered me to my garage of choice and car back with me a day later. Slave cylinder and hydraulic pipe, both external, replaced, car good as gold again. Thank goodness it didn't need a clutch!!

Wee car turned 100k the other day, 60k of which have been mine. Longest I've kept a car and most miles I've done in one.

Must have been a relief indeed. Around £200 all told for the repair I assume ?

£165. Car now just turned 100k miles and still driving tight as a drum, no knocks bangs or rattles, very impressed.

I am as pleased with mine as you are obviously with yours. Doing nothing like your mileage, but the car is genuinely fun to drive. And very thrifty, compared to my others - £200 to tax and insure for a year.

My small issues are that the clutch operates within the first couple of millimetres from the carpets.

The other is finding a suitable phone cradle for using Waze - any recommendations?

Thanks, but I would prefer something that could be removed with risk of damage. Although that does look neat.

Fair enough. I have used similar on previous cars and 30 seconds with a hair dryer softened the glue and zero damage. Then a little bit of WD40 removed the glue residue.

I live in a penthouse apartment and don't have a lead long enough for the hairdryer, but know somewhere I could use.

Have been having eml on dash and a restricted power message...car still driving fine bur definitely felt a little strangled. EGR valve and heater plugs were the fault codes so all swapped out...and problem remained. My mechanic said he had bought an aftermarket EGR and suspected this was the problem. All this coincided with a BMW recall for the EGR cooler; mine was OK on inspection, but luckily the foreman mechanic was friends with my mechanic and after a brief chat, he agreed the EGR was still to blame...to shorten a long story, offending valve was replaced with genuine BMW part and all fault codes are now gone, car driving as well as ever. So, top tip, use original parts when possible. 105k miles now, I'm past the point of 'cashing it in', so I guess we will find out how many miles one of these can do before they become uneconomic to keep.

Another MOT, rear brake discs and pads, abs sensors cleaned up, oil and filter change, running really well still, 117k miles now, owned 5 years next month, 70k miles or so of total have been mine...wonder if I'll get it up to 200k?

200K? I'd hope so with regular care.

Mine/my wifes ONE just had a new OSR caliper this afternoon which resolved an annoying problem. Having now (hopefully) fixed the water ingress I'm tempted to get the gearbox oil changed (@87K) and a full engine flush. It's only done 5K since the last service, looks mint and runs like a dream for a 2011.

Also tempted to look at Celtic tuning options.

I fancy a remap, mentioned it earler in this thread I think. Might worry about clutch at over 100k, but then I drive smoothly and a remap would be for more relaxing trips rather than outright go. Yours will be an R56 on an '11?

Yep, R56 ONE, pepper white. Just had an email from Celtic, 325 for a map to take it from the stock 96 to 128hp or 395 for a box with mutiple maps you can switch between.

325 for a bit more zip getting to the co-op might be worth it.

Think the gains for mine are to 114hp or 147hp! I'm sure either would make a huge difference and it seems very tempting!!
