Even if the S/C turns out to be fine, it's worth doing an oil swap in it. As far as I remember there are two reservoirs, one a lot easier to access than the other, but if you do take it out then it shouldn't be a problem anyway

S/C oil change kit for the R53 Eaton is available online

as I keep saying.
You do ....... keep saying .......... lots of things. Strange things. Are you on the R53 Owners Club? Recommend you join if you are not. Great forum for learning about and understanding the R53.

Clearly my time would be wasted, so no thanks, if you can't tell the difference between a cam chain rattle & belt/idler/supercharger issues perhaps you should listen a little better.

Thought I would update this thread. The Supercharger went off for a refurbishment to GT Tuning in Blandford, Dorset and has been refitted but the engine is still noisy so I am getting the chain tensioner done.

GT Tuning were not the most communicative of people and despite their claimed three day turn around it was more like five. Arrived on a Monday and was sent back Saturday I think. I did want to ask them about their thoughts on it but they just said yes it could do with a refurb. So again at only 60,000 miles it may have been too early for a refurb. It came back with lots of blue gunge along the joins so I am not sure what that says about their work but we shall see. They did try and talk me into upgrades on pulleys but I told them I have a track car and was happy with what I got out of it on the road. So some GBP 600 lighter in the pocket I hope it was a beneficial move.

More to follow once the chain tensioner is sorted.

Crikey! I would have done the tensioner first, they're thirty-fourty quid!

So I take it you never ran it with the belt off while you had it out then just to check if it was the engine?

Blimey!! Timing chain tensioner is a half hour job at most.
Still at least you should have an as-new supercharger

The only reason it is more than a 1 minute job is because it is so awkward to get to and only comes undone 1 flat at a time.
