Our newly acquired 2009 cooper has decided that the A/C won’t work. It is not blowing. cold air at all, just warm from outside it feels like.
How much should I expect to pay approximately for the unit to be overhauled please?

Would this be the one you were assuring me last week was well sorted? silly

A/C stuff is complex. Could be a regas, could be a major overhaul. Might have a leak, might have a duff compressor. You can do visual checks, like seeing whether the clutch engages when the button is pressed. You could take it somewhere like Kwik Fit who will regas it for £60 & if the temp doesn't come down 10% then there's no charge.

Air con systems aren't simple. On Minis, there are all sorts of checks the ECU performs when you press the button & if one element of the system is not working such as the temperature sensor or the low speed fan, then it won't switch on. If it were mine, I'd be checking fuses, the clutch, electrical connectors like the fan & after that, recognising it's specialist work & ringing round for a few quotes from guys who know what they're doing & who will tell you the cost depends on what they find.

It is one and the same, I spoke to soon smile
The A/C worked OK on test drive and we hadn’t used it since, now it is not working. I have looked through the service records but cannot find any history on the A/C service or regas. Hope just regas, thanks for posting, I will check the obvious stuff before taking it to specialist.

So far mine has had regas (all came straight out through knackered condenser, new condenser and rad fan, now holding gas but not compressing. New compressor and dryer goes in Thurs. Gah.

Had a regas 3-4 years ago on our 2010 Cooper S. It wasn't getting cold enough, but the regas sorted it.

I'm having it done again next week, it struggles once the temps are over 25 degrees. Just in time for the current heatwave to pass hehe

New compressor and dryer done today - not the best day to test it with ambient temperature at 34deg but it’s blowing nice cold air now smile

It is recommended that A/C is used for at least a few minutes a week to keep the gas circulating which lubricates the seals, if the seals don't get lubricated, they will dry out and leak. A lot of people don't realise that you can use it to heat too, it will help dry you out after those cold wet winter walks.

Tried a couple of the mobile operators but one said we were out of his area, fair enough, and other didn’t get back to me.
Went to Kwik Fit this morning, one hour later with system tested for leaks and recharged it’s blowing ice cold, all for £60.
