One thing I only discovered last year (having started driving in 1987) is that my Mini does not require the use of the throttle pedal at all when crawling in traffic.

This may blow your mind but you can probably get up to 20-30 through the gears with no use of the throttle pedal biggrin
As indeed you can in pretty much any modern FI car.
Doesn't even need to be FI. A small NA petrol will do it with careful clutch use.

[cool stary bra] Last time we had snow I managed to get my Fez ST to spin its wheels, in 3rd, from stationary, with no throttle on! [/cool starey bra]

I meant Fuel Injected not Forced Induction, should have been more specific. wink

Reminds me of doing top of 4th on an icy hill and a very noisy exhaust (in a 30 limit residential street at night....getmecoat)

Far less antisocial was when I got my 2wd sapphire Cosworth stuck in snow in my parking space roadside and managed to get the wheels spinning in 1st on idle and got out for gander smile

Did a similar thing a few years ago e36 328 track car, pulled it out of the garage in the snow & it wouldn't go back up the little slope, got out with it in 1st at idle, spinning both wheels (LSD) and took a short video before leaving it parked outside while I went & shoveled some sand over the (now well compacted & polished) snow to get it back in the garage.

Apologies for continuing off topic theme and completely unrelated to MPG (other than I could probably do better with less throttle) - managed to get wheelspin in fourth tonight on greasy previously gritted, but 'dry' roads. Temp 5 degrees, Michelin Pilot Super Sports and Quaiffe LSD. No match for the torque though and I was quite surprised just how easy it was to spin them up.

MPG wise, I get around 38mpg but mine is the later turbo rather than supercharged engine which is less thirsty.
