But if they’d just filled it up 5 mins before you got there, you’d never know. So is it really worth rejecting if everything else is good and the engine sounds ok?

You are right, but your argument is pointless.

The OP has seen it and does know about it.

It’s so frustrating and their response has been pretty patronising, making me feel like I’m ridiculous to be concerned about ongoing issues as the car drives fine. But it needed 1.75-2L by the AA to get it back to appropriate level (I don’t know if that’s a large deficit).
They are paying for a full oil service at my local BMW dealership and an investigation of the engine to see if there is any damage.
But I’ve spent all weekend reading about oil starvation and I don’t know if it’s worth it - it seems like there will be damage possibly in the next 5,000-10,000 miles.
Also the warranty they have given me with Autoprotect I reckon won’t cover issues caused by oil starvation.

I don’t know if I need to threaten financial ombudsman action and state that I’ll keep the car if they offer 2 years BMW warranty

It’s annoying becuase it’s left me without a car to get to work this week

You have the rights under the consumer credit act to a full refund within 30 days irrespective of any reasons why.

This in itself should point the dealer to a free 2 year Mini warranty.

I’d be fitting a magnetic sump plug now, give it a week, 500 + miles and see what comes out,

You should ask for for your free oil change then, or buy 10ltrs of correct spec oil worst case you’ve found loads of engine crud metal particles etc, so it’s cost you 75 quid to dodge a bullet

Best case you’re lucky, no crud comes out, you’ve had a double oil change/flush and have piece of mind during your ongoing ownership.

Mini oem oil change will be from above via pump, you need to visit an independent and request old school change from below.
