Got the call from the dealer that it's in. Now I'm in a quandary as this review is out too - https://www.topgear.com/car-reviews/mini/jcw-gp
Kinda confirming my worst fears, they won't let me test drive it, obviously that the only way you would really know...
It really does sound like it's a lot like an R, as in very capable but not involving at all and I've driven a couple of R's in anger.
I've asked what the deal would be against the Challenge anyway as will be interesting to see the one way street ie buying/selling in operation.
Seems strange that there are no proper reviews really anywhere still....

If you can't test drive it you have to look to them I'm afraid.
As for on track, that's about fun for me and that comes from involvement I'm not in a race and don't need super quick times.
I'm sorry for putting a downer on it but 37k now is sounding a lot of money for me for what? Less involvement, Less adjustability, Less rare but more power and gadgets?
Must admit I was looking forward to CarPlay and heated seats!!!!!!
Any owners in south east would let me come out with them? You could have a go in the Challenge?!!

I have the same dilemma. I'd decided not to take it but I've been back and forward for the past 5 months on it. Car turns up this coming week so need to decide. The Autocar review was pretty positive and you get the feeling it will be a hoot on track. I had a challenge and prior to that a GP2, thought the GP2 was more "special" to be honest and miss it more than the challenge but it obviously wouldn't have seen which way the challenge went. Decisions decisions.
As mine is delayed until July, i still have time to make up my mind. I do agree that none of the reviews are very complimentary overall of the car.
I also think that offering the JCW with a GP pack in the exclusive colour is a real p*ss take on Mini’s part and they should have offered the GP in alternative colours now that the exclusive colour is no longer exclusive.
As it stands for me right now it’s 60/40 in favour of still going ahead.

I’ve got a golf Clubsport s and I know what you mean, I’m 6,4 and can easily fit in the gp 3 and the Mrs Jcw
Thanks I've had another think though and I'm guessing I'll probably get 20k trade in for my golf r. That's a 17k gap with a GP3, and for that I'd much rather keep the golf and buy a caterham.
I think my local dealer must have one as they've left 2 messages and emailed after my enquiry. The email said they'd put me on a waiting list, but it seems strange to chase me to just put me on a list.
I do wish though that when I bought the R I bought a clubsport s! very nice

I’m getting my name down tomorrow on the list for the new Clubsport s which hopefully coming in 2021 . 45 years of the GTI special edition I've had another think though and I'm guessing I'll probably get 20k trade in for my golf r. The reviews coming in are a real shame but not massively surprising.
I can totally see why MINI have built the GP3 the way they have. GP1 & GP2 were heavily compromised for most but loved by the few. Instead, and understandably, they've built a car that's far broader in its appeal and may initially sell better because of it.
The only thing I don't really understand is why they didn't keep the rear seats in this time? If it's not for the hardcore drivers anymore, and more for 'people who want the fastest/best MINI there is' why not keep the seats? Or at least have an option for them?
Making it two seats only risks it being 'neither fish nor fowl'. But, for the folk who've bought one, I bet it's exactly what they wanted so good for them - another 300Bhp hatchback in the world is always to be celebrated!

Got the call from dealer today...
15K
They offered me 15k for my 10,000 mile Challenge edition. In the dealer network there are 3 on sale the cheapest is 25k with 25,000 miles on the clock. So now Mini dealers want a 10k mark up. Didn't want to offer a deal of any kind on the GP either.
