Front Suspension Dust Covers

Just changed the rear pads on wife’s 2017 mini countryman and checked the front pads which still have many miles on them.
Have noticed that both front suspension dust covers are all split and on the nearside the damper is leaking oil; car has only covered 20,000 from new.
Car is still under warranty until later this year so booked in for an inspection.
I am expecting both front dampers to be changed as do not know what/if any damage to offside damper unit and they should be changed in pairs.
Anyone know if this is a common problem and may be worth checking on your own mini.
