Our F57 is fine on a run, but then it does have adaptive suspension, 17's and no runflats. The R56 is firmer though and bouncy.

If you don’t need 4 seats buy the roadster ...
Lots of room in the boot, looks much better with the roof up or down, esp with jcw body kit
Diesels are cheap also

Four seats needed. I’ve got two kids. 8 and 4 years old.

You will need to amputate the 8yr old's legs at the knee to get them in a mini. wink

Yes, you could manage a school run but you wouldn't want to go far.

If you are 6ft or over your seat will be against the back seat squab. They do rattle you either put up with it or get something else. They are a hoot to drive on B roads, motorways, not so much. Apple Play is to try to make a boring car interesting, you won't be able to hear it with the roof down anyway. Roof will last ten years but will look tatty before it leaks.

I've driven the diesel and petrol versions and bought petrol, twice. Oil burner would be OK in the hatch I suppose.

I’m starting to wonder if now isn’t the right time for one.

I had a mk1 MX5 a couple of years ago and loved it.

I appreciate all your input. It all seems honest, things I hadn’t considered fully before joining

I think the Mini is over rated as a convertible.

It is a H/B with the roof cut off, no wonder people complain it rattles, it was not designed to be a rag top from new

It looks like an old fashioned pram with the roof down

It's so embarrassing for the owners that they rarely put it down

Maybe look at a BMW 1 series if you want 4 seats, it might have more leg room in the back (I think they look better as well)

Get the wife a shed for running the children about and buy another MX5 for a proper cheap rag top. Your budget will cover a run around for the kids and an MX5 for fun
