F57 Strange Issue

My wife has a F57 2017 convertible mini cooper auto, I used it today to pop to the local shops and tuned it off as normal. It wasn't locked as she was in the passenger seat, I came back from the shop and tried to start the car as normal (foot on brake hold start button down) and nothing. The dash appeared to be completely dead ( I thought it may be the battery) but a notification popped up in the digital Speedo "Hold Start Button and Move Steering Wheel" I tried this a couple of times and nothing but eventually the dash lit up and the car started.
Anybody else seen this?

Yes, had it happen once.

I think it's just a one-off when there is a slight load on the steering lock release mechanism.
