I'm looking for tyre recommendations on a 2014 petrol Mini Cooper, please? It's got mismatched tyres on it currently and I want a uniform set asap.

It really depends on a number of factors such as use of the cars and budget etc.

We have a 2018 Mini Cooper and for me tyres are always a no compromise subject so went for Michelin Pilot Sport 5's.

Very impressed with them!

It’s my daughter’s car, so safety is primary concern. It’s never going to be driven 10/10ths nor tracked.
Budget not massively relevant but I’d probably baulk at paying more than £150 a corner. But that is plucking a figure out of the air. If that gets Chinese ditchfinders then I’ll pay more.

With that budget you will have a great choice of tyres available.

Also worth considering what area of the country you are. An all season such as Michelin CrossClimate's if you often get cold/wet/wintery weather.

Have a look on somewhere like blackcircles to see what is available.

We had Cross Climates on my wife's previous MCS. She works in the care sector and needs to get to her jobs in allweather, all times of the year. I didn't want another set of wheels/tyres, and the Michelins worked well with minimal wear.

Will be replacing the Hankooks with a set in November.

What size are the wheels as this will affect the choice e.g. if it's 15" then you'll only get premium touring or all season tyres?

Good question - I will check this evening. I seem to recall that it has the 16" (I think it was neither the smallest 15" not the largest 17").

Uniroyal Rain Sport 5's are good, had a couple of sets on a Cooper S & will be around £400 fitted for 4 smile

Do Michelin Cross Climate's last a decent mileage, similar to decent summer tyres?

Do the rears on a Mini do very much? I doubt it.

I'd put the best available Michelins on the front, regardless of cost, and put the two best of the old tyres on the back. (Or spring for a full set of Michelins and rotate them for even wear in due course.)

After 15k on our R56 MCS, they weren't nore than half worn. My Mrs drove it with sympathy!

My "cheap" goto tyre has always been the Uniroyal Rainsports, there great in wet conditions which considering the UK weather is most of the time.

Rainsports aren't actually a good tyre, they are too soft, don't wear well & never come out well in wet tyre tests, I have no idea why people like them.

If you can tell us the wheel/tyre size that will help, but you could always go to ASDA tyres, choose the size then list price ascending & check each one out on tyrereviews.com until you find a good one (use the "all tests" tab) that is in budget.

A few good examples within reasonable budget could be:

Goodyear eagle F1 Asy 5 or 6.
Pirelli Cinturato P7 C2
Michelin Primacy 4

Personal experience with Uniroyals, had them on 5 or 6 cars now both FWD and RWD.

I have only used them on a Mini (so relatively light) & in 40 series so could imagine on a heavier car with higher profile sidewalls them being not so good esp in the dry if really pushing on.

That’s what I got. Seem decent, can’t complain, would buy again. Not ste in the wet, quite soft and compliant, and not too noisy. 300 quid fitted for 4 in dec 2018!

I have always run separate summer / winder tyres on previous cars, but (given modest performance on the latest - a 2012 Cooper, bought so my son had something insurable to learn in) I opted to go All Season. Very happy with them in the dry; will see how they go in the winter. But given the brief - safety for your daughter - I'd recommend that approach (i.e. something like these or the Cross Climates above).

These Quatrac 5 are apparenty a big step forward from previous variants of the tyre, and well priced.
