Hi Keeblers,

Alas,I have some more questions to solve....
First about the rear parcel shelf.I made one up(see photograph)of 10 mm plywood thet sits on top of the rear box section. But when looking in detail to the glue remains on the GRP it seems that the back box section was covered completely with Vynide. This would include that the shelf has a straight at the back and is pushed against the box section instead of on top.I found a photograph of a red Keeble with the shelf constructed on top and made mine the same way.Does the shelf tuck under the shoulder of the back seat or does it sit against it?

The second is about the footwell side.
The outside GRP panel of the footwell seems to have been covered with carpet. Is this glued straight on the GRP or is there a cardboard where the carpet is glued on. Or is this a Vynide covered section?

Last one is about the cover closing the belt at the rear bottom:There is a bolt hole at the top behind the slit where the belt comes trough. Is there a sort of bracket behind the bolt to close off the aperture and attach the cover?
Thks .already,
Dirk/Antwerp

Hi Dirk1. Currently away from home so unable to photograph the car but have scoured my archive and found a reasonable picture
On Ch76 the rear section has its own covering with the panel sitting on top of it. Mine has Ernie's modification to assist with clearing the rear windscreen, it uses the grill from early Jaguar XJ cover the hole with vents though to the rear edge of the boot. Looks like yours has the same mod.
It's the small grill below the inner headlamp:

Thks Mellow Yellow. That clarifies my thoughts. Meanwhile I have put rubber in the boot gutter. This obstructs of course the exit holes for the ventilation.....

A whole bunch of England football supporters invaded the circuit during the lunch interval - all part of the Goodwood "theatre"

I am not a great fan of Goodwood "theatre" so I missed 81's moment of glory on Friday - I was busy looking at planes instead - Sorry! ITV4 are showing Goodwood highlights today (tuesday) and tomorrow, booth at 21:00. So 81 might make the cut in one of those programmes? Hopefully from the Sunday when the weather looked decent.

Today fitted the front and rear screen.I enlisted an old pro to assist and he immediately declared the rear screen no fit for the aperture. We tried to get the screen in with the chrome fitted but quickly had to do without as it popped out allthough well attached with gaffer tape. The rear screen stands proud at the top corners. I think a thick insert of at least 8-9 mm diameter will be needed to push the rubber more where it should be seating.
The front one(new courtesy club) fits better but again the chrome strip will not be sufficient to apread the rubber.I was also wondering whether the Original rubber was cut at the two bottom corners and reglued at 120° as there is still a large opening?

Don't know if these pics will help. Mine used rubbers supplied by the club, the front screen was also a replacement (albeit not whilst I owned the car). I wasn't involved in the fitting, the guy who did it was an expert at old awkward cars and managed to fit both screens without cutting the rubbers, no puckering either.

Hi Dirk,
Needed to fit missing/popped corner trims to original front screen upon acquisition in 2011 and as ill fitting rubber annoyed me decided to remove patinated screen, albeit with attendant risk of breaking. Club had recently commissioned a trial run of rubber that had not proved satisfactory so mine was the second version and guinea pig.

Like you, used old school specialist fitter and all went well and no breakage and the feedback was...
"It is good quality crisp rubber extrusion a great neat even close fit and the metal insert sits so much better than before." Mine incorporates well executed angled join at lower corners.

The original rear window was reset when car restored in 1999 with old style rubber and it sits well at base and lower corners but protrudes slightly at top corners (packing?)where rubber also has slight puckering. Again discussing with specialist fitter he counselled.... "to leave well alone" Single join is at centre lower base.

Hope this helps

I got the rubber from Huntsman and can only suppose he got it from the club!(Looks NEW)Will take the rear one out again and try a different method. From inside everything looks perfect, outside is terrible at the back. The man that assisted is a older screen specialist having a lot of experience that I cannot doubt of....

After checking with master David it was clear that the rubbers were at least 15 years old and previous design. So a new set was ordered. Will keep You posted about results.

Let's hope that the latest extrusions and fresher rubber help you overcome this annoying glitch.

Looks like Chassis 34 is back on the market at another eye watering price. Advert seems to suggest it is being sold by the Dutch vendor who put it up for sale at the Bonhams FOS auction last year but I thought it sold? Perhaps the dealer has just done a cut and paste on the Bonham's catologue as it seems to contain the same slightly odd description

I wonder when was the last time three were available for sale at the same time?

Price does seem very ambitious to us sat here in the UK but I suspect the vendor is considering the international market. If you're buying in USD, Ch98 is now about $25k less than when it went on sale. Hopefully this doesn't mean more going overseas.

It did definitely sell at Goodwood last year and car now bears UK registration . A clear case of lazy plagiarism barely edited . A better marketing ploy would have been to mention its real historic interest...to some.

Mellow Yellow is spot on as regards € and $ enhanced buying power as just experienced first hand German phoning immediate interest upon advert appearing, with holding deposit & flying over 3 days later to grab a 1970's British classic, with dealer confirming a real uplift in overseas interest.
