I play rugby union on Saturday afternoons, so only venture down to ParkRun when the season has finished - so today was my first time this summer. As a prop forward I'm carrying what could generously be called 'a bit of extra weight' or perhaps more accurately - fat.

Having not done any really running since the end of the summer, was pleasantly surprised by a 15 second PB for my local course (my ParkRun PB i expect is out of reach unless I do some tourism having set-it when living elsewhere) . Still way down the list, but I enjoyed it.

I ran my season's best by a second this morning, only for me to come up as an unknown runner despite everything scanning correctly.

Have flagged this up with the team, so hopefully they can amend the results before the runbritain import on Monday.

Went to Belfast Victoria Parkrun yesterday. Ran 32:17 which was nearly 5 minutes quicker than last week.

I took my brother with me this week, he’s run a few marathons so he had no bother running with me while pushing his 1 year old in her buggy.

Doing the 5 mile leg of the Belfast City Marathon relay tomorrow, which will be a step up.

Yeah, some people are just born to run.
My pr mate can start at the back, push a buggy, catch up with me, pace me, chat and then speed off. All while I’m at 97% max wanting to die

Paced by a 10 year old and got my fastest time this year 24:09. Rowing 5k every day, parkrun is my only run.

took 11 seconds off my PB at Ludlow, within 20 seconds of a sub 25 minute time now. Considering how hard I had to work to drop below 26 minutes this seems like good progress.

If I could drop a few stone in weight I could be pretty quick I reckon.

Nice running everyone. I have run Ludlow and it's easily 2 minutes slower than a normal park run

After many months of 28 to 30 min runs, managed a 26.49 today.

Pb is 26.05 so aiming to better that soon

Still the same issue for me though, sub 25 min pace for 3k, then survival lol

Have you tried doing some longer runs? When I first started doing some longer runs prior to a 10k race I got several parkrun PBs as I wasn't dieing off at the end like that.

Not been doing many longer runs recently and yesterday and my 5th km was over 20 seconds slower than the rest biggrin

Sadly not frown

I've chased again and politely reminded the organising team that this wasn't me forgetting my barcode, but either a scanner hardware failure or an operator failure (most likely). Some may think it's petty, but I love the data available to every runner and I'm led to believe it's an easy enough fix to manually amend the results.

It is easy to correct, I always check emails on Saturday eve or Sunday and do an update of scan fails (just been doing it now), as you say it's the event's fault not yours and it's easy to check in the data to see that people are telling the truth, if either athlete or position hasn't scanned we can see the other one and a gap; it's unlikely that both would fail.

That’s pretty poor. Be been ‘unknown’ through no fault of my own a few times and every time a quick polite email to the event explaining the situation has got me manually added to the results, usually the same day.

I'm reluctant to say this because I am very fond of my home event, but I suspect part of the lack of response is down to organising team apathy and loss of interest.

The core team have been largely the same core team since 2010 when parkrun was practically unknown outside of London and a few other pockets in the UK. In that time, the team have not really grown - more or less lost 2 members and have in the last year gained 2. As one of the frequent largest events after Bushy, it's not friendly or welcoming, which may or may not be a tactic to keep numbers from growing - a visitor shared this feedback with them recently to validate the feeling.

Took part in my first today, well, it was a junior parkrun (so 2kms) so took my 6 year old down. She loved it. It had moved from a park on the outskirts of town to a more central location and 91 kids turned up today plus a few adults running with them and there were easily 30 volunteers/marshalls. She's looking forward to next week already and I must be honest, it's inspired me to go to the adult on Saturday's now.

Also agree that it’s a poor effort by the event. It takes seconds to edit the results and if they wanted they could check the scanner files as well for a failed scan.

Not all scanners hear the beeps and not everyone hangs around to wait to hear the finish token bring scanned so it’s not an uncommon thing to get an email about.

So, it's now 2 weeks since the scanner mishap and I've still not been manually amended in the results. Will chase again in person this morning...
