Got my link to order my 100 t shirt today! I did my 100th parkrun back in December. So not too bad considering the system didn’t go live til March.

Edited to add: I didn’t get an email to say the link had been added. So keep an eye out on your profile page.

Wife did her 50th today, very proud of her. Could have given the 35min plod a miss though...

(She ran 5 miles down, I just joined her at the start as I brought cake so I can forgive her for the pace)

Great weather for it this weekend cool

I did my tenth Parkrun. Although I have been running for nearly two years now I was a bit late to the Parkrun party mostly because I'm averse to getting up early on the weekend but it's all for the greater good and limits my Friday night beer consumption considerably! I run down to mine and back making the overall distance about 12km including warm up / cool down walk so never that fast on the 5k itself. Whenever I've driven down I always managed a PB!

Randomly as I was finishing I recognized the girl in front of me who had been egging me on for the last few kms of a 10k I'd done the previous weekend. I said hello and thanks for the encouragement the previous week. We obviously both run at a pretty similar pace.

First one today, 35 mins 35 seconds. I haven't run for years (London marathon in 2003 was last time I actually ran other than running around after my daughter) and can't believe how hard I found it given that I regularly cycle 30-35 miles and did a 70 mile cycle around the Isle of Wight 3 weeks ago. Really enjoyed it though, can't wait til next week :-)

Hi fellow Parkrunners! Only just found this thread, and I'm a newbie at PR (actually a total novice at running at all!)

Neve been interested in running, but had started jogging on the beach last summer (we spend hours there every weekend, its only a 5 minute walk from where we live) Marianne is happy to just lay on the beach with an occasional dip, but I can only do that for so long smile

Started jogging but out of breath after about 30M (!) Was about to say "too hard" but a friend who runs marathons said "so run 30M, walk 30, repeat".. I took his advice and was soon running 200M before having to get my breath, and totalling about 4Km regularly.

Stepdaughter does PR with her Dad, and it sounded good, so I started doing the Whitfords Nodes Parkrun about 6 months ago.
http://www.parkrun.com.au/whitfordsnodes/

Initial time was 35Minutes (I'd been hoping for sub 45!) and gradually improved to 32 before doing an Achilles and hamstring (opposite legs!) in one go... Lots of physio (finally getting some value for my health insurance!) and lots of comments about how tight I am everywhere (apparently that's a bad thing, and its taken me 57 years of poor posture and lack of activity to achieve it)

After 4 weeks of stretches and massages etc I've progressed to their running clinic each Saturday morning (clashes with PR) and also taken up yoga and regular swimming. Did a 3Km trial this week at 6minute per Km which puts me on target for my goal of sub 30minutes before my birthday in July... 3 more weeks clinic then I'll be back.

My home PR is a bit tougher than most, it follows a path along the beach with a bit of elevation change, then goes up into the dunes. If I'm getting close to my goal I'll probably "cheat" and do another local one which is completely flat along a lake shore smile

Welcome to the parkrun club!

I thought I'd dodged the rain this morning whilst marshalling, but was caught in a torrential downpour around the 30 minute mark that lasted about 10 minutes to soak me to the core. I kept smiling and I don't think I've ever received so many words of gratitude as runners went past!

Hi, I’m visiting London for the weekend in a few weeks and I’ll be doing a parkrun. Has anyone got any views on which is the hilliest and/trailiest Park run in London ? Going by strava , Richmond Park might be 56metres elevation.
Also I’ll be looking for a 10-15 mile run , I’m thinking kings cross (my hotel) to Hyde Park, loop of the park and back but any other suggestions gratefully received,

We did our first Welsh Parkrun at Erddig (Wrexham) in the grounds of the NT property there. What a lovely spot and it was v enjoyable around the wooded parklands; the trees giving some nice shade.

Wormwood Scrubs next week!

Richmond park didn't feel too hilly when I did it a couple of months ago and although it's not tarmac it's good paths.

I'm told that Hampstead Heath is more hilly and properly off road and Hilly Fields is (unsurprisingly!) hilly.

As below, Richmond Park Park run isn't on the trails nor on the hilliest parts, suspect the park wouldn't tolerate that many people as trails tend to be quiet with 99% of people on the main gravel/tarmac paths.

If you choose that one and want more, then bring some trail shoes (if rained, not needed if dry) and do your own run before or after. There are a few steeper climbs, the hill near Petersham Gate probably the steepest although not very long.

Ticks are known to be present, so consider long pants if planning to go randomly off trail.

Anyone else do the parkrun wave of the Westminster Mile yesterday? First time I've ever done a mile race and happy with my 7:50 which is nearly 45s/km faster than I managed at parkrun on Saturday biggrin.

They really need to advertise it more though, there were probably only 300 of us in the wave, and when we entered there was no obvious way to specifically enter the parkrun wave, and had to e-mail the organisers to transfer us.

I was there smile

6.14 which I was very pleased with as I've had injuries and apathy recently! Probably wouldn't have been quite as fast but linked up with a guy at about 400m who was doing similar pace and we raced it to the end, nearly bloody killed me! Mile is much harder than 5k! I was satisfied as I took him in the last 100m smile

The parkrun wave was advertised by parkrun - email/facebook and was sold out, there was even a 2nd pr wave, but it only had about 3 people in it (Bxxxx race numbers) so they just joined in with everyone else. Last year I did one of the adult waves and there were about the same number in that so I think all the waves are quite small.

The parkrun wave is nice because people wait to clap everyone in, other waves people just keep going towards the goody bags.

Mile's an interesting distance - we organise an informal sort of parkrun spin off mile in the summer months and lots of people who do it, ranging from 5 min to 15 min say they've never run a serous mile; because everyone knows about 4 min mile, they want to compare

Typical, managed to get myself front and centre for the photo, and then looked the other way biggrin Loads of people took a pic though so there's bound to be one with me looking the right way with my eyes open.

I remembered the disappointment of missing my 30 minute target by 6 seconds last week. I used that to motivate me and keep me going when I felt like slowing down.

Ended up with a 28:57, new PB by over a minute.

That's the unique appeal of parkrun for me, apart from the friendly atmosphere. I was desperate to do Ludlow in 26 minutes, now I do that every week, and have nearly managed to crack 25 minutes. It's like getting a high score on an old arcade game.

Very well done on 28:57 you've absolutely destroyed your previous PB there smile
