yes I'm super impressed with the attitude of the dog owner; it was obviously their fault, but many people seem to have an aggressive attitude to runners these days. Most people smile and reply when I say "hello" or "good morning", but I get a few people a week who glare at me, or refuse to move when two or three abreast on a pavement, forcing me into the road. I find at our Parkrun a number of dog walkers almost block the path for the head of the field, and seem to relish staring us down and being in the way. What I've always wanted to see is their faces when they see the other 650 of us around the next corner hehe

I did my 1st volunteer job this weekend as a marshall. Very straight forward. If you volunteer as the tail Walker you can also get a credit as you will have walked the course.

Cape Pembrooke had 170 runners for their inaugural, down to 37 this week for their 4th event. I can't believe that many tourists went to the Falklands for the inaugural biggrin
Ha my mate and I joked about going for the inaugural. Had a quick look at flights which quickly put to bed any ideas of going. Was looking at 2k ish for flights.

The purple tees are quite smart. I’m only on 4 volunteer stints however. Still, I’m likely to get the purple one long before my 250!

I'm trying to find the nearest PR to Castle Cary.
The map used to have a section where you could look by region, now it has some sort of locater button. Plus the map doesn't seem to be fully appearing on firefox
Has it changed recently?

The map changed a couple of months ago and the website is evolving - I think it's mostly to make it more user friendly on phones.

Hover over magnifying glass, top right, type Castle Cary, it doesn't find a parkrun name but finds the town, click on it and the map zooms to that area.

On PC, Opera and Chrome, the map doesn't load on Internet Explorer.

Also works on my Android phone.

Works OK for me in Firefox.

The two closest to Castle Cary appear to be Shepton Mallet and Street.

A little further away are Henstridge Airfield and Yeovil Montacute.

Went along to the second event for Oaklands parkrun. A flat-ish 3x lapper on paved paths, making it reasonably fast when not windy.

A rather large bull mastiff dog off its lead wandered on to the course; the runner immediately in front of me was able to dodge it, though caused the dog to change direction into my path... The dog had a low centre of gravity and probably weighed more than I do, so I was knocked down by it, taking quite a hard fall in the process on to my hip and then shoulder. Stunned, only thing I knew to do was get back up and carry on running! Lost about 10 seconds, but pleased to still finish in under 20 minutes.

The dog owner was very apologetic and went over to explain the situation to the organising team at the finish. No lasting harm to me, despite being a bit sore still. The organising team shared with me that they were secretly quite relieved it happened to me and not somebody else bigger/newer to parkrun as it could have been messier!

Off to Wolverhampton's new parkrun this week for my "E" in the alphabet challenge and no.3 on the Wilson Index.
I was planning to go to Oaklands this weekend but then changed my mind and drove past to Severn Valley. Proper XC run which was great fun.
Glad the collision between you and dog turned out ok, it could have been a lot worse.

Try using the tourist tool. The search doesn't work but you can move around the map and click on the point you are and it will show the nearest parkruns. You can also put your barcode ID in and hide completed events.

Did a 10k trail event at Severn Valley in the summer, really enjoyed it despite the hills wink Have to try the Parkrun at some point or another!

Sad news this week, the wife of Event Director at Netley Abbey gave in to depression last weekend.

I'm sharing this because he's a PH member and posts on this thread sometimes - I know him in person as well as on here, won't mention his PH name to preserve his anonymity but everything else is in public domain on FB so I'm not giving anything away.

It sounds as though Netley Abbey (Southampton) will be very busy on Saturday; if you knew Peter or Beth you may want to go along, if you were thinking of popping in as a tourist it might be a week to avoid.

Whiteley are also remembering her this week.

(I don't know any more than is on fb BTW)

The above is me. I was thinking about posting something on here but have been beaten to it.

When someone dies there is a ribble and that ripple radiates through all the people who they have touched over time. My wife had a massive circle of friends and was involved in many, many different activities over time. She was also a big fan of parkrun and part of the core team at Netley

My core team at Netley have done an absolutely unbelievable job in only a few days to scale the event to receive at least 3 or 4 times the usual numbers (250ish) and when you see the posts from people who are coming along - most of her work, school friends who have not seen her for years, parents from the nursery, etc. Literally everyone from all walks of life (and that is before you add on all her running friends). I really cannot thank them enough.

Just before she died she had the idea of setting up a new junior event (which is very close to going live) near to our house (I am the ambassador for it). It is a tragic, tragic thing that happened to her and it will be such a shame that she will never see the joy that the new junior event will bring to the kids that will benefit from it. But it will be her legacy.

Hi Peter, I hesitated about posting, but as the news was on fb already I hoped it would be OK, and as you were wondering about posting it sounds like it was - I didn't expect that you would be on here this week tbh.

Hopefully Saturday will go well, no one's going to worry much if numbers are so big that it doesn't happen with its normal efficiency and it sounds like the team and volunteers are stepping up to the mark.

I might have come over to volunteer or run but I'll be running in Florida, hopefully asleep at 9am UK time but will think of you when we run at 7.30 US / 12.30 UK.

Peace and Best Wishes
