I think one of the issues might be over-crowding once Parkrun restarts.

Firstly you've got the regular parkrunners, who will obviously be there.
Secondly you've got the occasional goers, who haven't been for a while and are missing it.
Thirdly you've got people like me, who mainly do races and find Parkrun interferes with the most important run of the week: the weekend long run. With no races for a while yet, you can bet people like me will be out at Parkrun for their race fix.

Add all three together and we could be in for record numbers as soon as the go ahead is given to restart. Our local Parkrun is already over 700 people on an average Saturday!

Interestingly new people are still registering. We're up to 71 for a parkrun that hasn't even started yet!

I guess a lot of people have started running whilst they've been furloughed so doing a park run is there first 'event'.

Facebook poll of our runners, fairly unscientific, but 124 responses (we usually have about 500 runners).

2 no run,walk,jog
16 less than normal
26 about the same
80 more

My last run was Saturday and it feels like hard work without anyone to run with or a target to aim for, but at least I'm keeping it ticking over ready for when we're let out!

They're starting to relax the lockdown rules a little here (Netherlands), allowing group sports/activities as long as you keep 1.5m separation, and opening cafe's/restaurants with sufficient space from 1 June. So we can start meeting up a few mates for a run and breakfast which would be nice.

Gathering sizes limited until at least 1 September though and I can't see them opening any parkruns until all restrictions are lifted.

We're up to 80 registrations now...

Agree, I flag (and occasionally have to walk for a bit) about halfway round the various 5k/6k routes I have been running over the last few weeks, although one in particular is more hilly than my regular parkrun.

I have run more frequently than before - I only ran at parkrun - at two/three, but that's to replace the gym visits.

Be good to get back to it when the time is right

I’ve hardly run at all. I hate running alone and it was the competitive aspect of both Parkrun and the other races I do that motivates me.

I have been hammering the bike though so I am still fairly fit and so hopefully I should still be able to run a bit when the time comes!

Hope everybody is staying sane.

My run volume has come way down, but my run frequency has shot back up where I'm running around 5k almost every morning. Whilst I feel less fit without the larger volume, my body does like the consistency of a daily run, and it's much easier to maintain under current circumstances.

What I've not found myself doing compared to many of my friends is getting a fast, self-timed run in on Saturday mornings. Keeping your wits about you and maintaining social distancing whilst going fast is tough, unless I head to a park much earlier in the day.

I continued running the same volume (70-80km a week), although decided to revert to ‘base’ training and build things up ready for autumn races. The problem was my form suffered with all the slow running and I got injured (ITB). I’m back now, but really obsessing about my form and trying not to run too slowly!

I’m running more this year than last
Around 40 miles a week at moment .
Nothing scientific, just distance at a steady pace. Occasionally do a 5k around local track, to get used to pushing along a bit!
Looking forward to a proper race, maybe later this year... Ones I had entered in the next few months have all been deferred to next year

With the relaxing of rules we met up with couple of parkrun mates for a socially distanced 5k this morning, and then back to ours for the quiz. No parkrun is complete with cake so the same should apply for non-parkrun Saturday morning 5ks's right?

No cake for me - bacon butty when I got home.

Tried to do a royal flush negative split 5k and completely messed it up! Forgot to start watch for the first k, tried to speed up each of the next 3 but they all turned out the same pace and finally managed the last one faster! Will try again next Saturday and see if I can do better!

I managed faster on the way back than the way out but that was more due to the wind than my level of effort biggrin

5x1k with 1 min recovery this morning, managed to get it more accurate than last weeks failed attempt!

Stopped for (distanced!) coffee at the van at the end of the park with a friend - we'd finished running by 9 but by 9.15 there were lots of people running the parkrun route - we have an obvious U turn point so you can see if people are doing the route. I'll continue to run before 9 or after 10 until we're allowed out properly.

It'll be interesting if they manage to set this up as a proper event, the first mobile parkrun!

Anyone's guess if we'll be back running by Jan 1, but no New Year Doubles any more!

Many places had huge numbers the last couple of years and it's not going to get quieter in future so although it's a bit disappointing, I think it was the only decision they could take.

Lots of people on facebook moaning and making suggestions on how things could be changed so it could still be done, but most of their ideas would mean teams and vols having to spend a lot more time in the park, they don't seem to think of that!

Hope you're all well and keeping at least a bit fit ready for when we restart - are any of you lucky enough to be in NZ, where the restart is this Sat.
