parkrum. parkrun just for the Navy. smile
They probably won't be allowed Garmin/ Strava as it would give away the location, but they would give interesting results! Run 5 k and end up 20 away from where you started!

Anyone's guess if we'll be back running by Jan 1, but no New Year Doubles any more!

Many places had huge numbers the last couple of years and it's not going to get quieter in future so although it's a bit disappointing, I think it was the only decision they could take.

Lots of people on facebook moaning and making suggestions on how things could be changed so it could still be done, but most of their ideas would mean teams and vols having to spend a lot more time in the park, they don't seem to think of that!

Hope you're all well and keeping at least a bit fit ready for when we restart - are any of you lucky enough to be in NZ, where the restart is this Sat.
Sad to see the New Year's Day double go, but it was inevitable and would have happened sooner or later.

I did the Conkers and Rosliston double at the beginning of this year, and Rosliston was at near-breaking point. People had abandoned their cars on the main road, cars had blocked each other in within the official car park etc.

I have seen a Strava trace from someone who was on a running track on a cruise ship. It loooked like a corkscrew.

I have done that on my Garmin a the three times I have been on one.
One side you get head wind and the other a helping hand.

I've missed the news re NYD doubles. What's been announced? I couldn't see anything on the parkrun site or from a quick Google?

I'm not surprised on the NYD thing to be honest, the numbers at our local ones were crazy last time, people parking all over the place is just going to cause problems with the locals.

There's already ones he can't do anyway, those at the Prisons (unless he fancies a stint at Her Majesty's Pleasure)

Thank you. It's not so much the double that I'll miss (I've never completed one), but the 10:30 start of my 'home' event!

Yeah, I guess the entry requirements for a prison one are lower than for a navy one laugh

There was also one at Camp Bastion in Afghanistan.

I have done three at a prison. Easier than the Falklands one for example.

Some people will complain about anything - he should be pleased there are about 2000 events he can do rather than moaning about the 23 he can't, I'm sure the prisoners would much rather be able to chose than be stuck with just the one!

The Navy one isn't official (yet) so he's not missing out on that.

If you want to see how NZ get on at their first event back, With Me Now podcast are doing (technology permitting!) a live link at 8.15pm UK time tonight, probably on Youtube as the test on Facebook failed earlier today.

Saw 'PARKUN' painted on the tarmac of the south coast seafront promenade where I live & like to take a 'brisk' early morning stroll.
I now understand why I have to share space with a mass of earnest looking huffing & puffing types breathing out their potential Covid-19 fumes as they take themselves so seriously rushing past me ignoring all social distancing advice - "me me me get out of my way I'm a runner".
The cyclists are as bad & sadly the soppy council decided to remove the painted lines that separated the Lyrca lot from the runners & others.
Thankfully when the tide is out one can avoid the runners & cyclists.

Sadly people like him are all too common. They think they own the pavements and flatly refuse to give way to anyone different to them. When I’m walking, no problem, but when I’m running, they act like selfish idiots.

Thankfully I do most of my running on empty country lanes, but when I do run in towns, I see a lot of people like him - they normally stare defiantly forwards as they strut down the middle of the pavement, eager to assert themselves over a domain they see as exclusively theirs.

ps: I am aware I’ve blindly assumed this poster is a man - they always are!

Sorry but my point somewhat proven within the last hour.
There I was briskly walking, with a few sessions of speed walking thrown in as I adhered to one the side of a wide promenade. Suddenly from behind me I hear much heavy panting interspersed with low groans. Turning around I spy a female dripping in perspiration bearing down on me at some pace. Given that she could only overtake me on one side & that the promenade ahead was deserted I foolishly assumed I would be given a wide berth. How silly of me, because she comes flying past 'almost' brushing my shoulder & no doubt showering me with her sweat & germs. So please do NOT tell me that some, not all, such runners are arrogant & pre-occupied with only themselves.
Yes I'm male, not old, a cyclist & a swimmer so do respect the need to keep fit & avoid the current fad of being proud to be fat.

It's people in general; it's unfair to blame runners and/or cyclists. Every time I leave the house I come across people who aren't socially distancing, whether they be builders, cyclists passing me, postmen, other pedestrians etc. Some people get it and care, some people don't. It's people that are the problem, not the sport they happen to be doing when you see them.

I ran past a group of 'speed walkers' carrying those pole things this morning. 3 abreast across the whole pavement. Probably so that they could spray me with sweat and germs, arrogant and preoccupied with only themselves...etc

or something like that.
