I doubt locals will be impressed. Both me and my wife have been shouted at while out running during lockdown by ourselves and the amount of anti-outdoor exercise crap on social media is still pretty high- I had to leave my local page as it was driving me mad all the dog walkers thinking they own every outdoor public space. Could be a big PR disaster bringing it back too early.

With CV19 numbers apparently increasing I wonder if it'll happen
This is my concern, good intentions and all that but it won’t take much to scupper it imoHope I’m wrong though, can’t wait to go back
Ones near borders might get a bit swamped with tourists too.
Pleasing news, though I remain a little cautious. I received one of the invites to participate in the return to parkrun survey a few weeks ago, and I truthfully answered many of the questions with a cautious and uncertain eye.
I recall from the COVID framework developed that potentially more volunteers will be needed per event - additional scanners for example. Will affect the smaller events less, but my home event is one of the larger ones and we struggle to get volunteers under normal circumstances. One of my friends is a core volunteer and she has declared herself out as she still does not feel safe.
The arts centre where my friends and I go for a coffee after each parkrun has closed with no re-opening committed to, so we'll have to find other ways to have a socially distanced coffee.
I may defect to a smaller local event, as even in peak winter, my local attracted 700-750 typical.

Lots of people staying for coffee might not come back for now - maybe people will split off to a number of smaller cafes? Our normal cafe which is by start/finish are only doing take away served from the doorway and there's no way they'll handle pre-covid numbers - we averaged 600, peak 750 pre Covid.
The only place we'll need extra vols will be scanning, but we can use quicker runners to do that so won't need more non running vols.

Good idea. Is that a Parkrun idea or your local event? If just a local idea, I will pass it on to our local organiser. Steve vRS said:

It used to be the way most parkruns did it, some smaller ones still do.
I was giving out tokens at a small event (25-30 runners), P1 took his, looked round at the empty space and said 'Who's scanning'. I pointed 200m down the finish straight at P2 and said 'He is!'It's a different world at tiny events, sometimes there are no vols at 8.50 but one or 2 spectators can be dragged in and then the core team do things after they've run.
I'm pretty sure at one of the ones I ran in France the lead guy carried the stopwatch, I guess If someone overtakes him they pass it on like a baton There were only 6 of us running and I didn't see anyone at the start finish at the end of my first 2 laps.
New UK rules further reducing the size of gatherings says it doesn't include organized team sports, but not sure how running groups would fit in to that.
Our core team has been meeting up every Saturday morning for a 5k but rotating around several different venues. Nice to have the social run aspect of parkrun but not quite the same with only 8-10 of us every week, and the café at our parkrun venue is definitely the best one for post parkrun breakfast

If everyone takes a placard folded up in their back pocket then if questioned you can say you're having a protest. should be fine then.Gassing Station | Sports | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
