Could we be seeing the end of one of the greats? The Punter has been dropped and is holding a press conference regarding his future...

He announced he is available for test cricket should he be selected so I expect he has at least one more ashes tilt in mind.http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/cricket/17094222

Will be a shame to see him go but he's nothing more prove really (well maybe an Ashes win in England). True legend of the game.
Its actually quite refreshing to see how brutal the Aussie selectors are. In other countries legends retire on their own terms and that sometimes means they go on too long, but in Australia there is no place sentiment.
On the contrary, he's been included for far too long. He should have been dropped ages ago, and this is retiring on his terms, completely. Also, he may have been a great player, but he's certainly not a great cricketer. I make the distinction because it is supposed to be a gentleman's game, and Ponting was a complete and utter cretin. I, for one, will not miss him.Its actually quite refreshing to see how brutal the Aussie selectors are. Oh, hang on a minute. You're a Saffer - you'll be the one choking, no?
Your analysis is cretinous.

I'd rather be a choker than a cheat. I doubt that sentiment is anything a convict would understand though.Oh, hang on a minute. You're a Saffer - you'll be the one choking, no?

Played a lot of cricket with and against lots of Aussies and Poms and one or two saffers. Never known anyone to cheat - unless include not walking.
When did Ponting cheat, by the way?

Here claiming a very obvious bump catch:

Here you'll see him arguing angrily with umpires after even the TV replay shows the decision:

Disgraceful. Now we just wait for Haddin to go - he's worse than Ponting, and Pup. Then the Aussie team will be a team of fair players again.
Punter played hard, just as he had been brought up to do. The refs are there to keep the players in check, the players are there to play the game and win. Punter did no more or no less than others. If we condemn Punter for his various behavior, then we have to condemn Athers for not walking after gloving Donald and I can bring myself to do that because that then sparked one of the most memorable passages of play in the modern history of the game.
The best way of dealing with Punter's playing of the game was to best him on the field, playing as hard as he did. For this Gary Pratt will be forever a hero of English cricket!

Link 2 - no video - what is this 'obvious bump catch' you are on about?
You seem to be talking st.
Claiming or appealing for a bump catch is no better or worse than what every bowler has done for the last god knows how many years - and that's appeal for a lbw or catch when they know its not out.
Take the recent Pak-Eng series which was dominated by the spinners. You'd have a ball which pitches a foot outside leg stump yet the bowler still appeals like a monkey. Warney, Murali, Kumble etc all did the same. Were these chaps all cheats?

Rahul 'The Wall' Dravid expected to announce his retirement from all International cricket aged 39.

13,288 runs in 164 Test matches at a 50+ average. His debut test against England in 1996 (at Lords?) when he made 95 was probably the first test match I watched as a kid (was only into the PJ stuff before then).
I'd go as far and say he was a more effective test batsman than Tendulkar. Dravid made runs when it really mattered. Second only to Lara when it comes to test batsmen of this era imo.

Legendary batsman, and an absolute gent. Bit gutted really.
