In fairness he had a fking easy route to the final, five matches where only one opponent was in the top 32.
Having said that his long game was immense, and his breaking building is as good as ever. The reason he's not won even more was his temperament, and he seems to have sorted that. Plus he's clearly fitter at 43 than most players 10 years younger. Compare him to Higgins, Allen, Maguire, Murphy and you can see him playing longer than any of them.
A lot of those players outside the 16 (and even inside it) are beaten as soon as his name's read out. He's basically the Usain Bolt of the baize. And I love watching him crush their dreams.

Which kind of proves his point on some of the tournament structures.... Gargamel said:

Which kind of proves his point on some of the tournament structures.... I know you can only beat who's in front of you, (and some will make much out of the fact several seeds dropped at the first hurdle in the UK), but I'm not sure the draws/seedings are right. You want your top guys slugging it out against other top guys, not steamrollering noobs all over the place.

Got to Admit I was surprised by the closeness of the Scottish to the UK. Hearn has done a good job of making Snooker relevant again but he does run the risk of burning out some of the players. The Bernie of Snooker??
He'd be doing an even better job if he could get some of the earlier rounds (and evening sessions) on the TV - I'd love to watch the Scottish but it's on Quest only and daytime only, not so good for those of us at work!K50 DEL said:
And yet when I tried to get tickets for Ally Pally a few weeks ago, all I could find was £100 + each...
snooker audiences and ticket prices make no sense.
I visit the Masters in Ally Pally every year, sunday till wednesday, so all first round matches. Tickets go on sale the monday after the tournament, and for all first round matches you get 50% discount (apart from the sunday matches) if you book early. snooker audiences and ticket prices make no sense.

I just realised the Scottish Open in Glasgow, for some reason I thought it was Aberdeen. I've not seen any promotion whatsoever. Only a tenner a session and the final is £25.
Seems pretty cheap to me. I'm tempted to wander along.
Those prices have went down. Checked yesterday normal tickets appeared to be £25 with the final £55. Maybe they’ve had to put them down to attract a crowd. I wouldn’t think twice about a tenner for a weekday match but £25??Seems pretty cheap to me. I'm tempted to wander along.
Can somebody please tell Joe Johnson that he is commentating on the tele, not the radio.
I quite like the guy but dear God, he needs some help with how to do it.
He tries to say everything, I CAN SEE WHAT HAPPENED! I have a fking tv.
Just now ... “he’s freed the black up (black ball moved away from a red, continues to roll) but he’s tied the black up” (as it rests next to the yellow).
Alan McManus is rather excellent, great insight.
