Shame Selby stayed in. Hateful player to watch but the fat cheat being out is welcome.
I don't get the hate for Selby, I would have preferred to see his opponent win, he had a couple of chances in the final frame, but I don't mind Selby at all.I do remember watching them a bit when I was young lad(I was born in 73 and my great grandma got me into watching snooker).

You'd have enjoyed a Cliff Thorburn v Terry Griffiths game then
Nothing wrong with a bit of long game, attrition snooker, potting balls and building a lead is all very well for the quick fix, unsophisticated viewer.
A bout of safety play and a dollop of non-risk taking face off is just as enthralling as show-off pottering.
I'm intrigued re the ref in the Ronnie-Ding match, is he wearing a mourning armband or an advert one ?

Impressive number of century breaks so far, could the lack of distractions be a factor? Edit: there were 100 last year so probably not..

Fight, fight, fight (or something)
Just switched on and the beeb were showing McGill having a word about his opponent in his line of sight. I've not seen the incident(s).
Not the first time Jamie Clark has done something like that. Playing Joe Perry in the qualifiers he twice used a towel on his cue right in the eyeline of Perry as he was taking a shot. Needless to say Perry was none too pleased and had words.Just switched on and the beeb were showing McGill having a word about his opponent in his line of sight. I've not seen the incident(s).

Found the article, seems weird the same player is distracting again?

I like watching O'Sullivan play but worry every time he opens his mouth.
Tonights post match interview did nothing to dispel that.
It wasn't very diplomatic but he is quite correct.Tonights post match interview did nothing to dispel that.
The young players are not up to much, hence the contenders are in their 30s and early 40s. Since Trump broke through there has been little of note.
Strange to see RoS still at the top. I remember him coming through as as the "new" talent back when I was in 6th form 27 years ago!
Great end to a match, and a comedy interview to top it all off. It’s almost like he knew what was going on on the other table.
I’ve long believed that the immediate post match interview in any sport should be abolished, but at least with Ronnie you know it will yield something of note.

Not a fan but McGill and Clark was an epic match, to be that far in front and still lose, Clark must be gutted.
25 frames of snooker at the highest level and not one century.Edited by waynecyclist on Monday 10th August 08:12
Poor. It was a tense match but that's it.
The commentators say Selby just plays that way but to me I've always seen it as gamesmanship, he knows exactly what he is going and ends up slowing matches down to a crawl to benefit himself, the Vettel of snooker as in vastly overrated all imo of course.

At his peak Selby could be attacking and aggressive but since his form has declined he’s become so risk averse. I used to enjoy the fact he could be attritional when it was required, and certainly he figured out Ronnie in their two finals at Sheffield.
I guess it’s just too comfortable now, and it’s almost anti sport as far as I’m concerned. Certainly it’s not entertaining. The odd frame of grinding snooker completes a match, but Selby uses slow play as a tactic to frustrate his opponent just as Ebdon did towards the end of his career.
