Amla has batted sensibly, which is something KP has done about twice in his entire career.

All over red rover,

That is nothing like our best one day side, where were the bowlers... no Finn, Broad, Tremlett, Onions or Swann (exception for Swann who couldn't twitter a wicket at the moment)

Beg on you knees for KP to return , especially now it is T20 all the way. We looked like a really poor side today, not the current number one ranked one day side and world T20 champs.

Tired and short of talent.
That's the schedule for you.....they can't play the strongest team in every game.

World T20 later this month which has to take priority over this series and the small matter of the India Test series in November. The 50 over game is the bd child now.

KP wishes, happily his crap attitude lead to him being not selected way back when for SA, and now has ultimately led to his demise in the Pom team.

Very surprised they've not given the Genius a central contract (although they left the door open). He really needs to tuck into several large slices of humble pie if he's ever going to play international cricket again...

Which way would people go with the make up of the side for the India Tour? I'd go

Cook
Trott
Bell
Taylor
Bairstow
Prior
Patel
Broad
Swann
Finn
Anderson

That is assuming the pitches are dust bowls. If not Bresnan in for Patel.

If there wasnt previously, I rather suspect there is now! The revelation of the txts to your opponents, esp about your Skipper are pretty much going to turn the entire dressing room against you.

The daft thing about it all was that it never needed to be like this. You can have a dressing room that maybe a cpl of folks dont like others, but you can respect their ability, esp if they are pulling in the same direction as you. KP has been incredibly badly advised for more pain than gain atm. Hell, he could have got his own way after this summer and the T20 WC, played India series and then announced his retirement and done 5 seasons of IPL for mega money. He would have sailed off into the post test sunset with many cheers from England supporters and at least respect and appreciation from the England setup for his efforts over the last 8 yrs.

Now though he has buggered it all up!

The programme on Radio 5 last night was really interesting.....all sorts of people on it...I really had no idea that even at quite a late stage e.g. 19 or 20 years old he was seen as an average spin bowler who averaged about 10 with the bat.

Vaughan was on it who KP apparently has a lot of time for....he was very critical of both KP and the England management. KP "needs to look at himself.....he's played for three counties and three different IPL sides.....it's clear he has issues"....but he also said that the England management failed badly "KP is someone that needs to be loved/told how important he is etc etc.....if senior players had sat down for dinner with KP when this all started it wouldn't ahve been a problem". Said when he had KP in the ENgland side he spent a lot of time doing that but also made the point that IPL didn't exist then.

The point was also made that the real issue here surrounds the May test match series.....those that overlap with the IPL. Nothing else is a problem. As they said the England players are the only players that aren't released for IPL and they end up playing indifferent sides who aren't at full strength like the WI were this year (all their players are at the IPL) in a series that is generally played in poor weather conditions.....which the likes of you and I really don't five a toss about.

So if England released their players for the IPL they might lose three or four players for it.....which would mean they could blood some younger players. And it's never against a decent side.

The more I think about it the ECB a really a bunch of utter fk wits.....the scheduling is a mess. Because the ECB are chasing cash we the paying public are getting short changed....the best cricket we saw this summer was the SA test series and we only got a shortened series. Surely a proper 5 or 6 match test series every summer is both what the spectators and SKY would both want. Instead we get a lot of indifferent cricket.

Actually Cheib I like that. Release IPL players and can blood 3-5 new players in the side, with a mix of more experienced senior blokes. Suddenly the May series becomes relevent as it will be full of young lions and ambition amongst everybody.

Yup....to me everyone is a winner. I reckon the crowds would still be the same and I think SKY would actually be more interested in the IPL if it has England players in it. I'd definitely be more inclined to watch it.

Yep they all have to grow up. From a scheduling perspective it needs thinking through, but I like the idea of the premium test series with 5 tests and the mini series earlier in the year against the lesser lights, with the opportunity to blood the young uns. Sounds like common sense to me. That won't happen then..... wink

Cynic mode on - Of course it's a nice easy way for the ECB to gain rankings and show success by fielding full strength teams against weaker opponents, further weakened by the IPL.

With my real cynic hat on I'd almost go so far as to say the ECB don't want to have to adapt to some come-lately from a former colony who are making massive amounts of money in a form of the game that the traditionalists at the ECB don't appreciate
