Johanna Konta must be a leading contender this year especially if she wins the US Open.
I was just about to suggest her... bubbly personality, well liked by the BBC commentary team and the public at large. I'd certainly vote for her over another footballist or some-such
I would agree on the second point, though, SPOTY has to have a significant victory under their belt and, while her climb of the rankings and performance at Wimbledon are certainly praise and note worthy, she still hasn't won a Grand Slam!

The annual:
Is it about personality
Is it about achievement
Nobody bothers voting for it, and I should think each of the millionaires nominated give zero fks about winning or not.
You cannot win in England, have something about you and you're arrogant, be nice as pie and don't set a foot wrong you're boring. The public in this country are among the most thick you could find, they should bin this show and just do a montage of the years events, its what BBC do well.

nteresting... why is he disliked by the public unlike "Wiggo" who could do no wrong?
Never lived in the UK - Monaco these daysHas African accent
Didn't get on with Wiggins
Is far more reserved in character than Wiggins (who is a bit of a gobste, but amusing to some)

Fair enough. I was going to compare him to Kevin Pieterson who has an English mum but he moved here in 2000, he plays for for an English county side and has an outgoing personality.
The thing with cycling and where you live is that you don't want to be riding 30 hours a week through winter (when they're generally training most vs racing) in the rain. Very very few pro cyclists live in the UK even if they're from here, I can only think of one off top of my head who is a perma UK resident (outside of training camps).Even Cavendish and Wiggins who won spend/spent a lot of time at their other homes in Tuscany and Mallorca.

It's slightly different to have someone who only made use of his British heritage to get more money behind him and has never lived here.
You can't blame Froome for making the best of his circumstances, but on the other hand, it's hardly surprising if people don't love him for it either.
I don't know about other sports, but if he'd been a rugby player, he would've made himself permanently ineligible to represent any other nation after representing Kenya at the Commonwealth games.
