Disgraceful behaviour, any organisation worth its salt would sanction her further.

Incredible comments from Sue Barker -

"If they can't adhere to the rules then they will have to allow the coaching because we can't have things like this outburst anymore. It is not good for the game."

No dear, just ban the prima donnas who ‘can’t adhere to the rules’.

What next, just give the trophies to Williams so she doesn’t need to throw her kid’s toys out if the pram?

Well if anyone could point to a vid of her coach doing said signs it’d be appreciated cos I can’t find it. I reckon she’ll part ways with him now.
"The Frenchman later admitted that he had been coaching from the box but that Williams had not seen him doing so."

Her behaviour made me wince. Reminiscent of McEnroe in his prime.

Perhaps the Kenny Everett Brother Lee Love hands might do the trick?

It was the 'you'll never be on my court again' comment that disgusted me the most.

So she’s been fined for her outburst.

Less than 1% of the $1,850,000 she ‘won’ getting beaten in this one match.

That’ll teach her.

Agreed. That comment goes beyond arrogance and into the realms of narcissism.

It seems like most of the pundits/commentators/ ex players etc feel the umpire was in the wrong with some, notably Billie Jean King, actually feeling she should be applauded. If that is the case, the the sport stinks. You see abuse of umpires and referees in most sports, football, cricket, sometimes boxing. But, never that personal or that prolonged. The general support for her behaviour has turned me off the sport somewhat. The sooner she retires the better.

Yep, have to agree. Its toxic to have someone behave like that and not be properly pulled up for it. It was a major tournament final for goodness sake and she dragged the sport through the mud. The fine is pathetic, and then to have support from (some) ex players and commentators belies her position as being far far too important (and likely feeds into how she sees herself). All the posturing of sexism, I'm a mother etc etc... I mean none of that is remotely important. She was in the wrong, breaking rules, got called out then behaved like a brat and got into more trouble. How on earth can that be defended? A professional takes it up after the game, not during - clearly the ump isn't going to change their mind.

She's a disgrace and if the sport had any backbone it would have dealt with her properly. However, because of who she is they are scared to - and that's the most damning thing of all. Great champion, malign influence. Wants to be thought of as a great role model, mother etc, but behaves like a spoiled child and is backed up for it? Worlds gone mad.

A player takes responsibility for their team and whoever is in their player box. That’s why the coach, physio, hitting partner and guest passes are assigned the player they enter the grounds with. If your coach is coaching you, whether you see it or not the no coaching rule has been broken.

On-court coaching = Code violation, warning.
Smashed racquet = Code violation, point deduction.
Umpire was called a thief = Code violation, game deduction.

Now you have a thousand articles and cringeworthy “thought pieces” trying to make it about sex and race. It’s about complete lack of self control and poor sportsmanship, end of. She was getting handled out there, didn’t like it, couldn’t find a way through Osaka and self-detonated. Admitting that along with a sincere apology would have made things infinitely better.

Btw.. she’s a mother now, if you hadn’t heard wink

I was surprised at the level of support she got in the stadium at the time. I'm genuinely appalled at the support she has received after viewing the incidents properly.

Where? The only thing I found on youtube had been cut-n-shut so much, you couldn't judge the incidents properly. Full unedited would be nice.

I do trust the ump was sure Serena was seeing her coaches coaching signals, otherwise I sympathise somewhat with SW.

You think her coach was giving out signals, which he has admitted, and she didn't see them which coincidentally the umpire did?

The whole footage was on YouTube earlier.

Damage limitation effort getting the footage removed now?

Roddick is piping up. Bizarre when the whole thing is on tape and isn’t complicated.

Amazed they are trying to compare this event to the behaviour of McEnroe and Nastase. It was a completely different era and they secretly knew the possibility of either going on a childish rant was a big draw. Their behaviour was equally if not more pathetic that the scenes last night because they deliberately did it to take their opponents out of their game. Show me how many times they behaved poorly when they were up in their matches.. None of that would be tolerated in today’s game and rightly so. Nastase in fact got thrown out of a FedCup match recently for calling Joanna Konta a bh.

Having them all scramble to cover up for someone else’s poor behaviour just because they are a star player makes it all the more pathetic.

The ump may have seen them, but did the ump have proof SW saw them? Or is proof actually required within the rules, that SW saw them?

Removed because of copyright, more like. I think Amazon have exclusive rights within the UK.
