DM saying C4 Free-To-Air TV? That's satellite, not Freeview?

Last I saw was that BBC had done a deal with Amazon to show highlights on Sunday afternoon. C4 have clearly gazumped that and are probably now running an auction for advertising slots, for a huge Saturday night audience. C4 and Amazon look good, BBC not so much.

Edit to add - I hope BBC point out to viewers that the match is available on C4. It’s been headline for the last two days, but the BBC have a habit of ignoring sports they don’t cover.

It's a headline on BBC Sport that C4 have agreed a deal, not trying to hide it at all.

I'm pleased that the BBC didn't spend licence money when C4 can at least finance it with adverts.

So, by extension, the BBC should not pay for content produced by other producers?

Me too. For some reason my Prime feed for sports presents at about 5 frames per second. Which is weird as other internet based sports like DAZN on the same box play fine.

Are they not just going to use the Amazon feed? I guess it's a bit short notice to set up a studio and arrange guests and commentators?

I assume they will, just supporting CH4 for their initiative in promoting FTA sports.

Yes sure when it's in the budget.

But in fairness, I am not a big fan of how the BBC is funded in general. Poor value IMO.

To be honest the BBC would never have been in a position to secure live rights to the game anyway. Saturday night is Last Night of The Proms, so if they had secured live coverage they'd effectively have had to move that to BBC2, or BBC4, away from the traditional slot on BBC1 which would then have massive volumes of compaints from people, including the press, that the BBC have destroyed a yearly institution like The Proms for a tennis match.

Remember how many people complained earlier in the year about there being too much sport when certain tennis matches at Wimbledon were kept on BBC1, whilst other shows were pushed to BBC2 or postponed, then the coverage of the Euro's, and then when the Olympics were on?

As said above it's better than C4, as a commercial broadcaster and with a commitment to trying to show more FTA sports (including highlights packages), stepped in to secure a deal as it appears it's mainly funded through the expected advertising revenue once the slots were resold.

And let's not forget that channel 4 is a public broadcaster (just like BBC, created by an Act of Parliament) but funded commercially. It has the resoucres and freedoms to do this - so well done them. And well done Amazon on donating back into the sport. Let's hope ER has a great game and hopefully wins.
