^ Any idea of the accuracy of a 357 vs a 38 spl cartridge in the same lever gun?

I have a Rio grand in 45-70 and whilst I love it and have not had any problems with it, to be honest I still prefer my friends Marlin.

Aahh.........depends on the gun.

My mate with the Henry, has tried factory 38SPL, factory 357mag and Magtech Cowboy Action loads in 357.

The factory 38SPL gave the best accuracy in his opion, so he now sticks with that.

His wife's Rossi on the other hand didn't show much of a difference between the 3, so she sticks with the 38SPL as its the easy option in terms of them buying ammo as he only uses that in the Henry.

Nice exactly what I was looking for. By the time my variation came back nine to be found.

How far have you shot it out to?

Only 100m, that's the length of our club range. It fares quite will at that with cast bullets and handloads, well its more accurate than me anyway.
But when you put it side by side with a Marlin the difference in finish quality is notable.

Why would it annoy them?

I'm quite tormented at the moment as I really like guns made of walnut, beech or some other wood... at least to look at. Polymer is a bit lighter and takes bumps better.

I don't think I could own a firearm that doesn't have some wood in it somewhere.........in fact they all do laugh

75 rounds today. It's now my favourite rifle. Loaded low with 13 grains of trail boss about the same as my hot rounds of .44 out of the Rossi recoil wise but much much more accurate. Wondering if I should sell the Rossi now.

Lot of fun. Need to buy some melons smile hoping to try it out to 300 ish should manage fine.

Also played with a VZ 58 mars. Lovely thing too and very accurate. I also now need one of these.

No, they will ask what meds you are on if any, our local FEO said he would renew over the phone.

Only problem was my application for a SGL got mixed up with his renewals, after a 5 mins on the phone he ask me if I had my current cert at home, I said no as I'm applying for one. He came around to check gun cabinet installation and a quick chat the next day, he said all appears in order expect your licence in about 4 weeks.

So if you don't need a medical for a new one, why would you need one for a renewal? smile

Just googled it and think I need one as well!

I wonder if the furniture can be back dated to make it look more like a traditional vz. 58.

Don't see why not not sure where you'd get it from

This was only 50 meters with 1970s Russian ammo cute little hole compared to the 45-70

What bullets are you using? I'm using 44.5 grains of tubal 5000 with a 400 grain lead bullet. I think the 5000 is a bit slow to be honest so I have ordered some tu3000, hopefully I should be able to reduce the powder load and get the same results. I have found the hotter I load it the more accurate it is, although I'm not sure I could put 75 rounds through it in one sitting though!

I can now happily announce that I have joined the Gun Ownership/shooting fraternity, which my SGC and the purchase/first use last Sat of my shotgun.

In the end I went with a New Baikal MP-27EM-1C which fitted into my budget and into me as well as an off the shelf gun can and I was able to purchase new. I appreciate the barrels are a little short for sporting clays however with some practice I should get better.

I tend to shoot at the clay ground in Headley if anyone else goes up there to shoot. I aim for at least 1 shoot a month

405 grain cast lead.

Will try some hotter loads but trail boss load was fine.

The .44 magnum I loaded maximum with H110 were quite unpleasant. Still finished the box I'd done though. Can't go home with ammo.

Well I bought that MP5 22LR which I posted about a couple of pages back. Oh it's so nice smile

Now I want to get a red dot sight for it. They basically come in two styles (I'm not going for one of these to in particular, just asking about which one of these two types):

or this:

The first one is obv a lot smaller so when using it with both eyes open there is going to be a lot less in the way between your eyes and the target. The second one it is easier to adjust windage, elevation and brightness of the dot.

Any ideas?
