The PH Gun Cabinet - Shooting Matters
Discussion
Can still shoot clays with my old man luckily, however he doesn't live as local as he used to, hence putting in for my own SGC as well as the FAC.
He applied for his FAC at the same time as me with Lincolnshire Police who funnily enough have an average wait that is only shorter than TVP by a matter of days, so we've we've got a bet going over who's will take longest. Whoever get their's first has to buy the other a box of .22 once they finally get theirs!

Did a bit of googling and the rumour mill is now saying a wait time of 12 to 15 months for grants!
Quite possibly...........TVP are in the top 10 in the UK for uselessness and longest wait times. Rumour is they contracted the whole process out to G4S, which would explain a lot but given other forces manage the process within weeks or at worst a few months, I assume its a deliberate policy decision by the likes of TVP/Essex/Kent/Warks/Lancs/Hants/Cumbria that they have such long grant times in comparison. They replied to my email today stating that they've just passed it to my local FEO to arrange a home visit.
Can anyone more familiar with the process explain where this means I am in the 'the process', does this mean that I've been accepted on paper, subject to a home visit? I've also not heard anything from my doctor so does this mean I won't have to pay them to share my medical history with the police?

My experience with TvP was submitting in Dec, heard nothing after 4 months like you so enquired then received a call for a home visit which took place in May, and i then received the certificate in late August... so there was delay between the home visit and actually receiving the certificate. I heard nothing from my doctor, referee or the TvP besides the FEO visit during the process. Can anyone more familiar with the process explain where this means I am in the 'the process', does this mean that I've been accepted on paper, subject to a home visit? Anyone got a hatsan escort?
I've had a browning 525, a Beretta 686 and a Lanber so I am not expecting these levels of quality but I only get out 4 times a year and it's pretty pointless having such a gun in storage the whole time.
Reliable enough. Just for knocking some clays out of the sky.

Not sure what you're getting at with the storage re: only use 4 times a year....??I've had a browning 525, a Beretta 686 and a Lanber so I am not expecting these levels of quality but I only get out 4 times a year and it's pretty pointless having such a gun in storage the whole time.

Are you saying that you no longer have a SGC, but want to get another one, but a cheapie instead, and therefore need to keep it at the clay range as don't have SCG anymore..?

I do have an SGC.

Sorry. I have better uses to have £1500 tied up in my gun cabinet to only use it 4 times a year so just could do with a cheapie.
I do have an SGC.
the solution to that is to get it out more! I do have an SGC.
I've had a lot of 525s, currently on the latest (2015 onwards) one. Fits me like a glove and I'll never be able to shoot well enough to do it justice.
I bought a Hatsan when they first came out but couldn't get on with a semi and ended up selling it. My 'fun' guns that I get out when I've done a round of 100 or winding down after a comp are a Winchester 1300 XTR pump and an old Baikel SxS 26" that I bought from a farmer for £50. It's loud and offers nothing in terms of recoil protection but it's fun!
If you really can't get out more to justify them then I'd say sell the 525 and 686 and keep the Lanber, it's good enough to still 'clay' and be taken seriously for those 4 times a year.
Then try out a Hatsan but my advice personally would be to look second hand. There's some really oddball shotguns out there that are a little bit different, won't depreciate if they're second hand and are really good fun.
I keep getting tempted by the Akkar triple barrel thing but it'd be a very expensive novelty.

Hi, sorry I should have been clearer, these were previous guns. As for getting out more, I simply don't have the time. I'd be quite happy to go for a pump action gun (just for a laugh) but don't want to alienate myself from the club I've had a lot of 525s, currently on the latest (2015 onwards) one. Fits me like a glove and I'll never be able to shoot well enough to do it justice.

I've used my brother in law's Hatsan Escort a couple of times and it's been fine.I've had a browning 525, a Beretta 686 and a Lanber so I am not expecting these levels of quality but I only get out 4 times a year and it's pretty pointless having such a gun in storage the whole time.

He does prefer my Franchi Affinity though.

If you do and it 'fits' OK and you can score with it, then its OK.
Personally, I'd rather have something that fits and suits best within a defined budget, rather than specifically what the name is on the side.
So, if that happens to be a Hatsan, then all well and good IMHO.

Yes. Although only used it in anger at clays once. Might shave played a bit at the club though I've had a browning 525, a Beretta 686 and a Lanber so I am not expecting these levels of quality but I only get out 4 times a year and it's pretty pointless having such a gun in storage the whole time.

Goes bang every time doesn't feel much different to a friends much more expensive semi auto.
Very very easy to clean. Only thing to remember is keep it clean and lubber and carry a spare o-ring.
Apparently likes 2 3/4 cartridges 28g from memory whatever that means.
