The PH Gun Cabinet - Shooting Matters

I'm excited. I've got my first really long range day at Bisley coming up, going out to 1,000 yards. I have shot at 600 before with my modified Winchester P14 in 7.62 but I am very tempted to take the Martini Henry out for a go as well, although I will have to load some ammunition on Saturday first.
Sounds like your P14 might be similar to my clubs new 'club rifle' which I organised last year to replace a somewhat shagged 7.62 converted No.4.C&G had a nice Parker Hale converted P14 with a mint 7.62 heavy target barrel with cut-down fore-end etc and PH target sights, that we part -ex'd our No.4 for.
It shoots lovely out to 600 yrds, but as a club we only shoot 900yrds once a year, so we've not had chance to try it at 900yrds yet.
The Martin-Henry at 1000 might be interesting though!
The sights on those at that range is the big limitation you'll have. If you are booked on one of the electronic targets, I wouldn't try the MH until near the end of the session just in case accuracy is a bit off and you break the electronics, as that will curtail your shooting for the session (if there is no other free target to move onto)
Spotting where the round goes without a marker at the target is a real problem on the electronic targets, as I found out trying to use my No.4T at 900 yards last summer. Hadn't been an issue in previous years on a man marked target
They take over an hour to fix if the electronics get broken by a round.

I am lucky that I get to shoot here.
Photo taken on the 800 yard ish line, can push back to 1000 though.
Called in there last year near Oldham? Looks like the place.Photo taken on the 800 yard ish line, can push back to 1000 though.
Problem was they wanted a 3 month probation, not six and a set amount of visits which i just wouldn’t have been able to fit in 3 months. I asked if they would extend probation to 6 months they wouldn’t.
Their range their rules only take me an hour to get there too have to wait till i retire.
Shame looked great

And then shooters/clubs etc moan that there's only us old gits shooting..... Their range their rules only take me an hour to get there too have to wait till i retire.
Yes PSSA. Probation is a bit of a chore but its something everyone has to do. If you have an FAC its not quite as bad as you can shoot so long as you have a SSC and pay the visitors fee. You still have to visit 6 comps though so some days you might not be able to shoot. Access is restricted too some weekends as the gate is locked due to shooting over the access road. So you have to be willing to work around the shoots / times for a few visits.
I need another new 12g Galway Bronze Wire Brush. I'm convinced that when I bought one a year or two ago I managed to buy an "oversized" 12g one that fitted more tightly in the barrel and I think it was made by Bisley. I remember comparing it to a standard 12g one and it noticeably wider.
I have just spend about 20 minutes searching everywhere online and through my email and eBay/Amazon purchase history but can't find any mention of one anywhere!
Has anyone else heard of these and can point me to one please?
ETA: OK maybe I've solved it, and it was a chamber brush instead of a bore brush?

What are the experts opinions on the berreta 682 gold E Sporter 30”
I have the oportunity to buy a good condition pre owned one. All the gear seems present chokes spares etc. First purchased in 2000 seems to have little use.
Fits me very well, points nice. I like it. Worth getting at 1.4k?

Is that price at a dealer or private?
£1.4-1.5k seems the going rate at a dealer for a good used 682 Gold E, so if private, I'd say a tad expensive, even for little used.
If it fits well, then thats the main thing, but obviously even better if the price can be negociated down a little
I wish Berreta's had fitted me better, 'out of the box' without having to spend an additional fortune on gun-fit work.
Got a bit of a dilemma and need some advice...
I’ve been invited as a guest to a driven day on Wednesday. It’s the gamekeepers day that the estate gives him as part of his compensation package (not beaters day, that is next week). The keeper has invited me because I’ve given him loads of pre-season help this year, putting pens up, feeding, dogging in etc, and I ran the beating line for him one shoot day when he couldn’t make it. So he’s giving me a peg on his day in addition to beaters day which I always get invited to by virtue of my regular beating work,
So the question is,,,,,,should I tip him? I’m very happy to do so and I’m not trying to wriggle out of it at all, I’m more unsure if he might be offended if I try to press a tip into his hand at the end of a day that he is giving me as a thankyou for all of my help.
Thoughts?

I love shooting, and this is one of my worst fears, insane huge bags and the burning/burying of birds, it will only take a couple of expose's and I fear that in the long run it could spoil it for us all.
No excuse for this.

Had this email
Response to pheasant dumping video
The Times newspaper and other media channels this week published footage of a mechanical digger being used to bury hundreds of pheasants. The video can be viewed here.
BASC immediately responded by strongly condemning such activity as bad practice which drives a coach and horses through shooting’s credibility. We call on all responsible game shooters unequivocally to distance themselves from behaviour which undermines the respect for quarry required by the Code of Good Shooting Practice. http://www.codeofgoodshootingpractice.org.uk/pdf/c...
A letter from BASC chairman Peter Glenser QC has been published by The Times; it forms the basis of a blog about the incident which can be viewed here.
The shoot owner concerned is not a member of BASC. The Association takes breaches of best practice seriously and has referred the incident to the local authority for investigation and possible legal action. We have also reported the shoot to the British Game Alliance.
