The PH Gun Cabinet - Shooting Matters
Discussion
The plastic ban wouldn't be a massive biggy for me personally as the places I regularly shoot are fibre only anyway. And tbh it's not hard to change over, there's plenty of fibre cartridges. Steel shot only I think would effect a lot of older guns?
Although how firm is this idea of banning them both?

The Times are reporting it today. BASC and a few other groups have asked for it to be law by 2025.
BASC have gone from totally useless to an utter failure of what they're supposed to represent.
Cooler heads would have had some sort of land assessment system, like when getting land cleared to shoot section 1 perhaps (my clay ground is an old pig farm that never has crops or cattle on it).
In terms of practical shotgun, lead is a lot less prone to ricochet, for us country folk it's a lot less likely to break machinery (say if you're logging a tree that's had some shot left in it).
I totally get the toxic issue with food but that's only one element to using lead. There must be a better way to get around this.

I think this move is more from BASCs main sponsor (Eley) and their eco-wad. That and getting ahead of the inevitable and using it for some positive PR.
It would be great if there was any data to show that wild fowl numbers have increased since they became steel only....... any at all....... or any indication of lead actually having a negative effect on anybody or anything as a result of lead shot.
On the previous subject of semi 22s for KingNothing, I'll throw mine into the ring. A Sig 522. It was originally released as a training rifle for the Sig 556 but was pretty popular in the civilian market. I had the first gen 15-22 (that I went to from a 10-22), tried one and then chopped it in for one.
It's just as reliable, slightly more accurate and has a metal receiver. Breaks down like the real thing and was actually made by Sig Sauer in their own factory in the US (not like some of the umarex stuff). Also takes lantac mags for CMMGs that are amazing (and made here in the UK).
It's only negatives really are that parts might be tough to come by (but I've shot about 5000 through mine relatively flawlessly), it doesn't have a last round bolt hold open in the same sense as the 15-22, isn't an AR platform and isn't as 'modular'.
The Sig Sauer factory stopped making them a few years ago but I saw some 'new in box' ones discounted in a shop in Wigan for £450 I think.
These days I take it in our field behind the house when we've got the family round and shoot some cans, targets and any mouldy veg from the pantry!
It has done some gallery, mini rifle, rabbit, squirrel and rat work in the past and never let me down.

Spitfire 3x? I've been tempted to replace my spitfire 1x with that, or perhaps a viper 1-6x24.
The seed above has grown a lower, full rifle stock and buffer, and LPK. I suspect it's getting pruned next paycheck and turned into a 10.5" pistol, as that's what's available. If so, I'll stick the spitfire on that. As soon as the current situation dies down a bit, I'll grab another lower and make that a 20" with the bits on hand. That'll be enough ARs for a while.
One of my other projects 'world's cheapest polymer 80' has been rapidly finished as 'world's nearly cheapest glock17alike, but with decent sights I'm still waiting on'.
I've also bought a Ruger 10/22 with a few mags due in the mail, and stuck the spare Sig Romeo 5 on it. Waiting on the magpul stock from amazon- while I've wanted a 10/22 for ages, I hate the nylon stock.
My ex-marine colleague who hasn't touched a gun in 30 years is running a LE6920 and glock21 and looking for a decent shottie.

Probably just .22 to start with, looking at maybe a 10-22 as I found that pretty comfortable to shoot, or a 15-22 as I'm used to the ergonomics of the AR platform a bit more. It's only a 20m indoor club, so they're restricted on what they can shoot I think, so primarily rimfire stuff, and lower powered and downloaded centre fire, I was shooting a .357 lever action downloaded to .38 special last night.
They are partnered with another local club which is outdoors upto 600-1000 yards so I'm planning on joining that soon as well, probably after probationary period has ended, so will have cause to stick larger calibre stuff onto my FAC application eventually to avoid having to deal with variations a few years down the line.
I think we shoot at the same club? Bolton? They are partnered with another local club which is outdoors upto 600-1000 yards so I'm planning on joining that soon as well, probably after probationary period has ended, so will have cause to stick larger calibre stuff onto my FAC application eventually to avoid having to deal with variations a few years down the line.

This has just arrived - Smith and Wesson M&P 15 Sport. $554 delivered which wasn't bad.
Next step is to order this Vortex optic for it:
$554.... ain't bad you are telling me!!! Next step is to order this Vortex optic for it:
A 15-22 in the UK is more than that!!! The cheapest in USD is probably $750.
To get a M&P15 for less than that is just nuts. I live in the wrong country

We need to have a PH shoot off

They do an M&P .22 LR for around $407 over here, complete with optic and bipod. That's next on my list as I want to get something just for target shooting.A 15-22 in the UK is more than that!!! The cheapest in USD is probably $750.

Mind you, prices have gone up and stock is very low as people have been panic buying due to COVID-19.

Ruger 10/22 for $229 and change the stock. Works out a bit cheaper and people will have them in stock as they aren't scary.Mind you, prices have gone up and stock is very low as people have been panic buying due to COVID-19.
