First time post in this thread, after a bit of advice. Dropped off my letter at my GP as part of my SC renewal 3 weeks back. Just had my second reminder from Cheshire police so thought I best chase the GP. Short answer from them is they no longer do references, arse. I am not worried if my SC expires as I can transfer my shotgun over to family while I get it sorted, but what is the score with getting a reference if your GP says jog on? Doesn't seem to be much info about this on the BASC website.
I have this with mine as well. Mention firearms and they make life difficult just to get your med records.

I and my reference used Shootcert https://www.shootcert.co.uk/ with no issues

Cheers, many thanks I'll follow them up. My GP proforma is with my local surgery now for them to declare I'm not a loony so I've managed to get the ball rolling.
Mickley is actually my old local ground too, as I'm originally from Tarporley (It's only now I've moved out of the family home that I now have the freedom to keep a gun under my roof.....). However I've only been there once years ago with a group lesson - the club I'm with and whose guns I've been using the last 8 years, shoot at Catton Hall in Frodsham which is much bigger and has a huge variety of traps.

The gun that's kick-started this licence drive is this semi-vintage Baikal which I've been offered for a very reasonable £180 because the owner is a good friend. It looks clean as a whistle inside and out, doesnt feel too slack/worn out and is about the right length for me. And, it's something different as a starter gun from a Miroku or a Beretta Silver Pigeon whilst being half the price!

Daft laddie question.

Is there a pin missing from the action?

That does not look right to me. But I may be wrong.

So, shall we start talking about a PH shoot then?

I did a couple many years back, both at Bisley Long Siberia, as well as a sim day , so it would be great if we can get another one out together.

I know AGL are a fibre only ground (for practice) and I think West London is too as an FYI.

I think nearly all grounds are fibre these days…

AGL would suit me, not shot there since Broomhills days !

You’d be surprised, Sporting Targets and Cambridge are still predominantly plastic! Cambs won’t let you use steel either, which I find surprising given the eco drive the industry is on at the mo.

AGL suits me too, never shot there.

What where is AGL?

Depending on people's location, Barbury just south of J15 of the M4 is another good ground (UK Open was held there last year IIRC)....
I've got friends down in Wilts area, and I meet up there to break a few clays with them a few times per year.

AGL is just off the M1 in Hertfordshire. It’s south of Luton, north of Hemel Hempstead.

I suggest we get a list of names interested and then see what fits best geographically…..

Snap biggrin

I’m actually over there at the end of the May for the Lyalvale Express Masters. Haven’t got a hope in hell of winning anything but had a days holiday to burn so why not. I’ll report back on the ground.

I shoot at AGL a fair bit, good ground with 14 stands. usually do 8 birds on each and makes a nice few hours.

The time has come to shift the Ruger RPR.

Let me know if you’re interested before I ping it round to my local club. Hope not to have to go on Guntrader but I’d rather it gone and cash towards replacing my recently trashed car.

I shoot at Barbury a couple of times a month (Bath based). It’s a good ground with plenty of stands. They did a lot of work upgrading the clubhouse, gun shop and layouts during lockdown.

I'll try my best to find a +1 but cant guarantee anything biggrin

Anyway, I went ahead and purchased the Baikal yesterday, with the help of good friend and fellow PHer Jimmy Recard who has taken it onto his licence for the meantime. We went straight to Catton Hall, my regular practice ground with the Uni club, and had a really nice day out catching up and killing clays!

Turns out I got on really well with the gun, settling straight into some of my very best shooting on some tricky clays! I really do like it, and Jimmy was also impressed by the quality/robustness and usability for what was a totally bargain price.
The only thing I'm going to need to get used to it that this gun has an auto-safety - it flicks on when the gun is broken. The club guns I've used up until now dont have this feature so I've got used to just keeping the gun broken until I'm in position at the stand. This did cause a few "pull! *click* dammit!" moments yesterday hehe

For even more variety, Jimmy brought along his beautiful 125-year-old side/side hunting gun which was really cool to see!

Turns out, yes you're right! When removing the forestock, a G-shaped flat clip pinged out. It turns out that the hole is meant for a screw to locate the clip against a spring, as part of the mechanism for ejecting the forestock.
With some mild fiddling, it was all persuaded back together and doesn't affect the operation of the gun, but I will be looking around for a screw of the correct size to fix it when I get the gun back
