Is your house one of these new timber framed construction types with no external brick/thermal block walls?

Or are you trying to position cabinet against an internal partition wall?
Both, the latter because it's the only suitably hidden place in the house
You'll almost certainly still need to fix back to the wall if you put it vertically though, its about showing fixing to prevent 3rd party attack, not whether it will fall down or not!
If there skirting board in the location, you'll need to fill the gap between the back of cabinet and wall anyway, so you can scan the stud locations and fix a piece of 19mm board the same size as the cabinet to the stud wall, by screwing into the studs, then that allows you to use the standard holes in the cabinet back to use a plaster board fixing through the 19mm board......distributing the fixing loads back to the studs, rather than the plasterboard. This shows you are trying stop a jemmy bar attack to pull cabinet away from wall.

Forgive my paranoia, I just thought that in matters relating to firearms it’s probably better err on the side of caution, especially when posting a pic with someone else in!

Haha I know, just kidding. Very sensible to do so considering the general anti-gun hysteria in this country.

Mine is screwed into the studs in the wall. Passed no issues. They said all we ask is it’s as secure as can be.

I know primers have gone up a lot, I've not bought any since last year but I made the switch from CCI to S&B just because availability was so poor.

Our club has only had to increase prices by about 20% for 22s..... but they only stock Eley (£72/1000 of their standard velocity 'contacts').

Mad isn't it. Mind you, once the lead ban takes effect these will be seen as cheap!

It’s a little Browning .22 - great fun little gun. I forget the model now. Will probably be what my kids shoot first smile

Get it while you can, especially the .22, as I've heard from a major ammo dealer that he can't even get any .22RF of any make at the moment....and doesn't know when he will be able to, once his current stock is gone he has no idea when he'll get any more.

And no chance of getting any surplus NATO 5.56 or 7.62 either when current stocks of that are gone.

PPU and S&B .303 ammo and 7.92x57 has just gone up by 20% this month alone, and again, as it's made in Serbia and Czech Rep, when current supplies are exhausted, its not likely that there will be any availability until after the Ukraine situation is over.

Mm, its all getting a bit stupid.

It seems that within the full bore community money is no object for most people and increasing prices just seems to drive their buying habits more and more..

Some of the shoots I go too there must be 1/2 million quid's worth of gear on the point - and thats not a joke.

I have friends who will buy a £10k rifle and stick a £4k optic on it, shoot it for a season then upgrade to the next thing and just keep going and going.

I think the firearms industry is one thats not really been effected by the cost of living increases!!

Well, that's definitely not representative of our club laugh

But I know what you mean from looking at clubs on the FP's adjacent to us on our shoots.

I’ve been bitten by the air gun bug, last week I bought a Weihrauch HW100KT adjustable laminate stock .177, a Walther Reign .22 Bullpup and this morning I bought the Weihrauch Hw44 .22.

For what it’s worth, I was planning on getting a 694 ACS but ended up with the DT11 ACS because I found a very lightly used 2018 model for only a bit more money. I haven’t shot a 694 (any variant) but had the second hand DT11 not been available, I’m sure I’d have picked up a new 694; the people I know who’ve got one really like theirs.

Out of interest, I take it that the rib on these guns didn't bother you?
I have never shot a gun with a rib that sits so high. Does it take much getting used to?

I specifically wanted a high rib gun, as I'm tall, have a stupidly long neck and narrow, sloping shoulders; shooting a regular gun (inc my 692) means I'm looking out of the top of my eyes and/or have the butt so high some is above my shoulder. The adjustable Monte Carlo stock and higher (but not actually THAT high) rib helps me get a better gun fit where the butt is fully in my shoulder pocket and I can get a good view down the rib, with a comfortable head position.

I had no problems getting used to the high rib at all and preferred it straightaway. Mounts well. It doesn't even feel high to me, just normal. Haven't had issues canting the gun (yet...) or other problems. However, other people hate high ribs with a passion and feel that the gun is floating around below them etc. Horses for courses - works for me (in the blue) and not my shorter shooting mate shown here.

You have to find what works for you (and be able to put up with comments that you've got scaffolding on your gun, etc. if you get a high rib). Lots of info on the web about what suits long necked folks etc., e.g.:

Looks more like Barbury
Really impressed by how much work they've put in, adding new traps and equipment new clubhouse, shop. Some of the targets are still really hard to hit biggrin

Shotgun Grant Interview

Well this morning on the dot the police firearms office plus a new trainee turned up to conduct our interview. I’m not going to fib, I was a little nervous. Don’t know why.

Anyway I thought I would go through the parts of it whilst it’s fresh in my memory in case anybody else is going through it.

Part 1
Introductions and just a run through of the application form to make sure nothing had changed.

Part 2
Medical, basically asking if a) anything had changed since the doctor signed the form. More questions about mental health, how they would rather people disclose the issues. MRSMB140 had a bought of anxiety in 2007, they were really great and understanding had to enquiry why, what triggered it, what help was sought but really very nice about it.

Part 3
Firearms experience. For my wife lessons at the club. We shoot 2-3 times a month with the club. Asked her to explain everything from arriving at a shoot to leaving.

My experience. I think they were getting bored, I’m military so they asked about every weapon I had ever shot. How often I was tested/checked on each weapon. Then on to my shotgun experience.

Part 4
How to go about moving your guns about the country, what to do for example if you had a car crash with weapons in the car. What to do if your stopped by the police and you have firearms in your car. How to go about firearms and travelling overnight to hotels.

Part 5
The actual Firearms certificate and how to fill it out. Emphasising the 72 hour to make sure we were aware of it. When to inform them of any changes. New guns, disposal of guns, selling guns. If you go away long term what to do.

Part 6
Inspected the safe, asked about CCTV, alarms, home security. Only thing he picked up on was as we live in a barrat house and the walls are about as straight as pissed bloke walking down the street. There was about a 5mm gap at one point between the edge of the safe and a false stud wall. I’d assume that as it was a stud wall and anybody trying to lever against the safe would put a hole in the wall before moving the safe it would be ok. He asked me to put some beading or wood to cover it. (Not an issue and I will do it but I’m pretty sure a small piece of wood isn’t going to stop someone but that’s all he picked up). Doesn’t have to be done immediately and won’t require a revisit because it’s passed the inspection as is but was just a piece of advice.

So got to the end of the interview.

“Congratulations I have no issue, will await a response from your character witnesses but I don’t see any issues for either of you. Should be with you in about 3 weeks”

Overall they were very helpful. Anything we didn’t know (72 hour rule) wasn’t an issue and explained it to us so we understood.

Left us with full contact details for himself and the firearms department in case we ever had any questions.

Any shotguns that have been nitro-proofed in London or Birmingham since 1954 will be fine for standard steel shot.

These are the proof marks to look for. Watch out for high performance steel shot compatibility.

Steel shot has a much tighter pattern as you may well know. Half choke with steel = full choke with lead. Also move up two shot sizes to compensate for lack of density (more important when shooting game), so if you normally shoot size 6 then move to size 4. If in any doubt then consult a good gunsmith.
I've a lovely 1975 Browning B25 Custom, it's Belgian proofed, still trying to work out if I can use steel!!! Any idea...
