Goodness, times have changed. Gone are the days of 28-30p per clays im guessing..... Think last time i shot EJs it was around the 42p but maybe wrong.

Considering the lack of shoots and as i dont shoot that often would be happy to travel further afield. Perhaps 1.5 hours.
Thanks for the link for Pheonix.
Yes, 30p per clay is ancient history I'm afraid.

We (PH group) shot at EJ's a month or so ago, and it was around 43p, which is comparable with most other places within an hour's drive of West London (maybe cheaper than H&H though?)
Not sure on WLSG costs, but I doubt its much cheaper (if at all) than EJ?
Even at Phoenix clay costs are almost 40p/clay IIRC, as clay prices went through the roof during Covid.

I'm guessing you might not have bought any cartridges either in recent times, as, if that's the case you'll be in for a similar shock there as well, as cartridge costs have doubled in last 8 years or so.

Be cheaper to shoot half a dozen times at H&H than pay for the time and fuel to get there just once from West London smile

Our local club in Essex has recently put their prices up. It's now 28p per clay. smile

Is that a cost to club members price, or to anyone on a pay n play basis?

As most grounds do a cheaper clay cost to members, but then you are factoring in the club annual membership fees to your clay costs, although, the more you shoot the less the added clay costs.

I know clay prices at Barbury are 41p per clay on a pay n play basis, but just 33p per clay for members, but unless you shoot just one venue all the time, or predominately, the reduced clay costs for members is irrelevant.
For example you'd need to shoot at Barbary more than 12 times per year to be worth paying membership, as that is the break even point of the 8p per clay difference, on basis or shooting 100 clays per session. Will be similar elsewhere I suspect.

Ah, yes you are right. That is a members price. I dont think its much more for guests to be honest. But it is an old school quiet ground where you are pretty much just left to it. Just how I like it smile

Too true!

But come for the clays and stay for everything else.

Here's us last weekend in the snow, and two weeks before, in better weather. Saddleback (aka Blencathra) in the first pic.

You lot are missing LVSA in Hertford. Fun little ground, some easy, some challenging. Shout if you are coming down and I will say hello…

Drop me a line and will sort a time to say hello. This time of year - Saturdays. The car park will be close to full by 10, so get there 09:45 or 12. Bacon roll from the hut will keep you going.

I'd been looking for a small game/tarras type bag for walked up and smaller days when I'm shooting and working the dog.

I only need to fit my dog first aid kit, dog spares, cans, a box of shells, gloves, glasses and a waterproof most of them come up too big.

Emailed Phil at Ogden Shooting Supplies on Sunday asking if he could make a reduced size version of their regular tarras bag. He replied immediately and asked how I wanted it finished. It arrived yesterday.

The dog bits fit nicely in the pockets. My stuff fits in the main compartment and I can even attach my spike of shame to one of the brass rings and secure it with the flap instead of having it dangling off my gunship.

That looks great. I would 100% use that for driven shooting. Like you I have a dog first aid kit and other bits and bobs. But for walked up, I am not sure that would work well if you have a few birds to carry. Do you take a game bag too?

I usually use a cartridge belt for walked up and a game bag. Trying to travel as light as possible.
TBF I'll mainly be using it for our walk one stand one small driven days where there is a lot of dog work for not many birds. I wanted pockets so I could keep the main compartment for birds when walking up - it has a removable liner. In the unlikely event of me shooting more than I can get in the bag I'll just tie with a paracord noose and attach to the bag.

Phil Ogden is a top man. He'll make anything you like to custom order

Looks like its just 1 hour from me. Little further North than AGL.

How long roughly does it take to complete a typical 100 bird round there if busy?

As per their website they mention 12 stands. Do they change their targets much? are they challenging?

AGL is nearest ground to me , and one I don’t visit very often. Mainly because they seem reluctant to ever change the targets and no bird rate can be annoying .

Much prefer the 50 minute drive to sporting targets….

Time to shoot will depend on how many in your group and how busy the shoot is.

2-4 hours, but big comps can be longer

Understand what you mean regarding AGL. They do have some nice high towers there which i like to sit on and try and shoot early. Also the Grouse butt (if its still there)?

Do you mean Sporting targets next to WLSG?

I was a regular there for many years. Not shot there for awhile. It was a bit clicky at times if we are talking about same place.

Was obsessed with Sheet and down the line.

Thats just 15-20 mins from me

No, that is (or was) AC Sporting Targets.

No, Turn7 is taking about this one below in Bedfordshire, which has a very similar name, but unconnected to the one next to WLSG (not even sure if that is still open?)

Ok, I see.

From website looks like a very nice ground. Good variety per the map layout. Also doesn't look like it gets too muddy there as they have tracks. Abt 1hr 20mins from me. Looks like a worthwhile trip up there.

If you can stretch to that journey time, given your closeness to the M4, then worth a trip down the M4 to Barbury Shooting Ground as well, which is a nice ground, and about the same journey time from Ealing as Sporting Targets would be.

Sporting targets is a great ground. Hard standing all
Round, multiple traps on each layout, big enough to move around and not have to wait, and some great targets.
