Just been down to the club to start a new wicket, glorious day.
Now all we need is for teams to stop folding due to lack of players. Should have had 7 games so far, instead 5. The return fixtures are probably dead now too.

Our village has been struggling to get a team out regularly for the local leagues, and so yesterday played the initial game of a series of weekend friendly matches, against Burghley Park, at their almost impossibly picturesque pitch in the grounds of Burghley House with an excellent view over the roof tops of Stamford.

A great day was had by all, the sun shone, Burghley laid on an excellent spread in their pavilion including a barrel of Real Ale, home-made Guinness and chocolate cake and we won smile

Well, we should have played 7 as well. Have just about managed the 2 League games and called off 5 friendlies. We very nearly called it quits last month.

We seem to be lucky, we have a list of about 35. Mainly due to the fact that if anyone shows the slightest interest I get their number!

I have also sent players to other teams, although come the friendly I sometimes regret it!

Strange this year , every week seems a problem to get 11 , it's almost becoming a press gang situation.

Wednesday evening league is the same , so far we have played with , 8, 9 and 10 last week , luckily still managing to win all 4 so far.
There is certainly a lot of spaces in the field with just 8.

Supposedly got 11 for tomorrow's game smile

League Game 3. Defeat 3.

Win toss, put them in. 30-3 we`re on top. Just couldn't nail it and they ended 205-7.

Our innings started badly, went downhill in the middle and the less said about the end the better. 100 odd all out.

Difficult when you have half the team made up of guys who wouldn`t normally play League games and frankly aren`t good enough. Today I had 5 regulars unavailable, 2 bowlers, our regular keeper and 2 of the top 6. Friday I had 9 players and was a hour away from cancelling. Tough times.

Yesterday we played with eleven for the first time.

They won the toss and put on 201 in the 35 overs , main scorer must have been dropped 3 times.

We were away like a good un , going at ten an over to some short fast balls , but that stopped suddenly with 75 on the board.

Got to the last 5 needing 35 with 3 wickets left, which went to needing 19 off the last , their bowler gave us a wide that went for 4 and 2 no balls and we ended up drawing with a 4 off the last ball !

The arguing from the neighbouring changing room was close on a fight , not sure they will all be playing together again biggrin
All we heard was " you only had to bowl straight and make it bounce" .

Another Sunday another Defeat. How very tiresome.

Miserable wet morning, reasonably close to calling it off. At home to League leaders who understandably were keen to play and give us bottom feeders a stuffing.

Predictably I lose the toss and we`re invited to field. They get off to a flyer and at half way were 130-0 and we`re staring down the barrel of 300+. Slowly we get into the game with a couple of wickets and we eventually took the last wicket with the last ball of the innings with them at 238. We were reasonably happy with that and a bowling point to boot.

We batted much better than the last few games and ended 190 for 5, gaining a batting point and denying them the bowling point.

I had a decent match ~ took 3 for 42 and bashed my way to 44 during which I invented a new shot ~ an on drive which went for 6 over point.hehe

Our oppo' bailed on us less than 3 hours before the game. They were down to 7 men with some Sunday morning dropouts. Annoying, but I feel for them - we've had troubles getting 11 out on a few occasions this year.

It could have been worse, it was my turn to do teas and I received the call about the game being cancelled as I was half-way round Sainsbury's. I'd have been royally pissed-off if I'd wasted all morning making cheese and pickle sandwiches.

Our oppo turned up yesterday for our friendly fixture with none other than Claire Taylor MBE in their line-up! Not fair! Thankfully, I snaffled the edge behind and she only made 22. Which allowed her team-mates to smack us round the park instead

Our team Managed a good win yesterday getting 267 off 30 overs ,think the oppo got 156 , we did have 3 new young asian lads playing for us , they only looked about 10 but boy, could they Bat, Bowl, and throw a ball with pin point accuracy at speed i could hardly believe , i kept asking them to teach me how to do that hehe The big hurly burly beer drinking opposition were non to happy with it all.

Played at Burghley a few times - also in their sixes week (when is that this year?) ... lovely ground. Dropped Jon Potter from Nassington (decent local player) on the boundary one year in the sixes - he went on to score loads including repeatedly hitting me over the scorebox at square leg, the bd.

Which team do you play for Mr Burrows?

League Game 5 woohoo We won.

Beautiful hot sunny Sunday, a minibus trip up North to somewhere near Canterbury.

Won the toss woohoo easy peasy decision to bat on a flat hard road. We knew we`d need a decent score and got going right from the off to accrue 238-9 off 40. Village cricket being what it is that sort of score wins 9 times out of 10.

They batted well, one young lad especially so who, if we hadn`t run him out with a direct hit from cover, could well have won it for them. Wickets fell regularly though and they ended 208 all out in second last over.

Failed with the bat, took 4 for 33, drove the bus, captained the side, took a catch and have arrived home with one thumb twice the size of the other due to it getting in the way of a howitzer at gulley. smash67

^ Well played!

Played in my first match of the season in what could be described as a "cricketing weather" yesterday. Picturesque ground on the side of a hill where square-leg's feet are at about the same height as point's head. A short boundary helped us to 215 all out in 37 of our 40 overs (criminal not to use the 40!). Our best bowler then bowled their best batsman with the second ball on their reply and we eventually knocked 'em over for 138. 4 wins out of 5 in the league now. Nice post-match pub too.

Further positive news in that I can walk ok today which is good for a Monday, though I am nursing a nice purple bruise after wearing one on the arm that reared-up and came down the slope a bit more than anticipated.

Burghley Sixes starts today I think - I'm not a player ( they don't even call me when they are really short!, just a social member)

It was a pleasure to see the youngsters in their whites playing on Sunday morning in our village some were also having coaching. Quite a few parents there too watching on.
Again this evening as I walked the dogs there they all were practising again. Maybe a village team will return in the future.

won again today.

We put 247 on the board in the heat , wouldn't have liked to be fielding first today.

Being a fill in bowler I was allowed a go , got 4 wickets , thought I had a 5th but was no balled.

Missed a hat trick but got him on the 4th ball biggrin
