What do people make of the fact that Froome just vanished straight after the line and refused to talk to the press? Very different to yesterday's aftermath.

Fair play to him. And that makes Dan Martin at least 3 times as hard as nails after last year; doing two weeks of the tour with a couple of fractured vertebrae.

He was attacked on the climb not seriously but the bloke did put his hands on him added to which the moronic booing probably pissed him off and as he didn't need to do press he would be glad to get out of there.
He may also be feeling the effects of a huge work load in the last 12 months and maybe he knows his legs are not as good as last year.

He and other SKY riders and team cars were also spat at so if Froome or Thomas wins this when it comes to the presentation in Paris I would refuse to take to the podium as its clear the TDF didn't help the situation by threatening to ban Froome from the race who is by the way their defending champion

watching Thomas react to every attack comfortably he is easily the strongest man in Team Sky at the moment that was just incredibly impressive the way he took that stage
Simon Yates was looking the same until he folded, but yes he looks very strong, Froome will probably lose time to him in the TT, Dumoulin will not make the current gap to Thomas in the TT, he will need him to crack.
Yes, easy to push too much a week into the race when you might fold or you know you are there to help your leader. It's the pacing yourself over 3 weeks which is important.

When was the last Tour on which Froome want booed, spat at or attacked?

Unacceptable, of course, but he usually still talks to the press, just like he did yesterday. I wonder if he's hacked off with G?

The commentators made no reference to booing which I clearly heard. No?

Nor to spectator in green shorts who made a lunge at Froome in the last few ks.
Lot's of booing as mentioned by the Dutch and Belgium reporters both during the race and on stage after the race.

And yes that imbecile of a spectator even physically pushed Froome.

Kruijswijk was followed and harassed by a moron in a Zidane shirt.

The French really should have more police around. The Italians in the Giro do a much better job.

But it's typically French.
"Fan" was arrested, pictures of him in cuffs.

Sky couldn't really lose yesterday, if Froome went Dumoulin and Bardet would've tried to cover it and likewise if G went.

Perhaps the plan was to capatalise on G being in yellow and the prospect of winning thr Alpe in yellow.

Froome made the break to stretch Dumoulin and Bardet's legs, leaving G to just pull in behind giving him legs for the sprint?

Still think Froome will ride into the 3rd week where the Pyrennes will suit the out and out climbers better.

Froome attacked to win. He just didn't have the legs. Thomas was riding for him but Froome couldn't build on that. Sky's "plan" was a Froome win.

He'll still be on top after three weeks but he didn't have it yesterday.

Having got there with the others Thomas seized the initiative by taking the fast sweeping line around the final corner while the others hugged the inner barrier.

He isn't hacked off with G. No way. I'd be very surprised and disappointed if that were true. They are genuinely good friends.

If Froome hasn't the legs for the 3 weeks and feels he can't win the Tour on any or all of the remaining 3 mountain stages, I am confident he will tell the Team. He is an upstanding bloke, I've followed his career as an ex-South African cycle racer (Amateur A) and he is a true Champion but also a Team player.

The other benefit of G going for the win was to deny Tom the 10 bonus seconds...

Sky need to be aware of Tom D sitting behind Froome and at the moment Thomas is their best bet for a win unless Froome finds a dramatic improvement in form or TD falls apart. Thomas will just sit on TD whilst Froome attacks just as he did yesterday so Froome has to find a lot of time on Thomas who is also a very good TT rider.

What's with all the depressing adverts during the live coverage this year? It's all crippled donkeys, starving children, injury claims and payday loans. Surely they could find some travel places or other good cycling related stuff for the ad break.

Or is this just standard advertising for daytime telly?

Have to remember he is still second though, and in a much better place than he was in the Giro this year.

He is on his 4th Grand Tour within 12 months its an incredible ask. I don't think he is as good as last year but I also think that if he was in Yellow he would stick out like a saw thumb for all the idiots to attack. His problem and Sky's is he cannot afford to bring TD with him and only have 10 seconds when it comes to the TT next Saturday even if he is on a good ride a puncture could lose him the Tour.
Meanwhile Thomas looks really strong so Froome has to catch him first and as I say that's difficult because TD will be happy to sit on his wheel this is some Chess game going on here.

The funeral plan is a frequent flyer, too, as is PPI. I also like the wordsearch "adverts". Daytime TV is pretty horrendous.

I am very suspicious of the two main characters in the 'life insurance to fund your funeral' ads., we never see either of the spouses, she is always slipping into his house with mail that has 'gone to the wrong house by mistake'.

I think there is something going on there. We should be told.

Yeah it’s all this and life insurance showing the after effects of parents dying during the day. hehe

Just the target audience.

You used to get more cycling ads though with wiggle and maybe chain reaction cycles?

listening to Eddy Merckx last night he talked of how the press turned against him after winning 5 TDF and they wanted a French winner

it resulted in the crowd turning against him an some idiot punched him in the ribs and his tour was over and he never won another one.
Sounds familiar doesn't it if something awful happens to Froome will the French take some responsibility for winding up the crowd.
On to todays stage again I wouldn't be at all surprised if Thomas gets close again.
