Won’t it be particularly bad for british cycling. SKY have been central in the success of U.K. riders since they got involved.
Sky broke of from British cycling in 2016, so it's only the pro tour team now.

I'd be keen to learn more, but won't the actual team still exist? Don;t they just offer the naming rights to the title sponsor?

So "Dave's Pension Fund Ltd" will look for a new sponsor, which they'll find relatively easily because they keep winning the Tour de France, and the name of the team will change from "Team Sky" to "Rich Arab Nation Cycling".

The team won't fold, will it? Also, cheap Castelli kit with the wrong name on it in about 10 months. thumbup

Sky are in an odd situation in that Sky actually own the legal entity of the team and the fixed assets.

They are looking for a purchaser and a title sponsor. James Murdoch could certainly afford to buy the team.

As far as sponsors, I would have thought Vigin would be a pretty obvious one though deciding which entity posts for it might be an issue.

Uber would be a pretty good sponsor too, it not like they would be afraid of the controversy.

Interesting on the ownership, thanks.

I'd love to see the tie-ins of a Deliveroo sponsorship...

O/T, but whoever in Tui notice that they could use the "cross the t's, dot the i's and put U in the middle" marketing line deserves all the bonuses.

I guess we'll find out how damaged the pro cycling brand is now.

If you can't sell the most successful team in years (rather than just sponsor it) with 2 GT winners on the payroll then cycling has issues.

Cycling used to be a European Sport taking place on mainland Europe from March to October . Riders from all over the world aimed to get a place on a trade team. Now Cycling takes place all over the world and is an all year round Sport so there are infinitely more riders and events than ever before and it appears that there are more cyclists around the world than ever before.
I don't see any problems with Pro Cycling sponsorship riders are paid incredible sums of money in this era so I really don't see a decline and if nobody picks up SKY then teams will definitely be looking at their riders . Sponsorship often comes to an end and 10 years on SKY have achieved probably far more than they could have ever hoped for.

So Geraint Thomas has won BBC SPOTY 2018....

More ammo that the team might be a valuable brand.

Wonder if Froome is a little pissed off given his 4 Yellows at TDF compared to Wiggins, Cav and G's 2 yellows and green smile

A South African accent and never living in the UK probably don't help!

Also I didn't see Froome on Graham Norton.

Made me laugh when I read who he was up against. Apparently, the favourite was Harry Kane? What has he achieved?

Oh yes, he's a footballer. hehe

Well done G.

It was also reported yesterday that the Frenchies have given him another TdF trophy to replace the one that was stolen.

Never met Geraint but he does seem a genuine guy and loves his cycling and it is a well deserved award his TDF win was just years and years of hard working in the making.

World F1 champion and Golden Boot at the World Cup, I think Geraint did pretty well.

Geraint was head shoulders above those two, (1) wannabe gangster from the slums and (2) football player who scored some goals against some not great national teams (what else has he achieved?)
It's the whole package that counts.

While he road season may have long finished, we're in the middle of the Cyclocross (CX) season. And like last season the women's racing is far more interesting than the men's with lots of different winners. However, the men's is seeing domination and regular masterclass from the Dutch 'phenom' Mathieu van der Poel.

Just like F1 takes the lion share of motorsport media; road cycling takes the majority of the media's interest - and so people are missing out on talents like Van der Poel, Schurter, the Athertons, et al.

Cyclo cross is just incredible just watching it on Eurosport its something I never got around to as it wasn't very popular in the UK.
The skill and bike handling is just brilliant.
