watching here! fantastic sprint for cav. quite a long range effort, so thrilled he pulled it off. hoping he gets his chance at the tour. who else in quickstep would be ripe for the spot?
Fabio Jakobsen. Who has arguably had a better start to the season than Cavendish. I know I sound like a broken record, but I honestly don’t see Cav being at the Tour unless Jakobsen is injured.

Although I would be very happy to be proved wrong on that point.
thanks. i'm quite out of touch in the last couple of years.
i suppose as with lots of us, i would like to see him take the record. i watched "the breakdown" last night with Cav, it wasn't great to be honest, but the two things that come across to me are that a) he still has something left to prove, i think in a way, he could do with the title to allow himself the space later in his life, post racer to be at ease with himself, almost like a reassurance or justification, and 2) It's fantastic that he seems better to be able to express himself on the bike, than maybe with words. fortunate for him that cycling is his career. i think you can read his intent better on the bike, than in the post race interview....

as an aside, i thought Greg Rutherford held his part of the interview very well, will listen to the other episodes, as i'm sure they're worth it

Jakobsen - 5 Grand Tour stage wins, all in the Vuelta.
Cavendish - 53 Grand Tour stage wins, 3rd on the all time list, still knocking them out. Green points jersey 2021 in the TdF.
It would be an insult to leave Cav out of the TdF.

Those numbers tell one part of the story. I’m sure a fairly cursory glance at their Quickstep contracts and salaries tell a pretty different one about where they sit relative to each other in the eyes of the team.

Also don’t forget that if Jakobsen hadn’t nearly died in 2020, the win and green jersey stats might look quite different.

I’m genuinely not anti-Cavendish. I think he’s great and I would be delighted for him to break Merckx’s record. I’m just not assuming that it’s a done deal that he’ll ride the Tour and on balance, I think it will be Jakobsen who gets the nod. There’s not a chance in hell that they’ll both be there.

Biniam Girmay's had a great day turn into a really bad evening.

It's a good job it didn't happen in the UK, the HSE would be calling for mandatory training before you can celebrate any success.

Nope, its been thrilling to watch. Shame he'll never do a full season due to the inbalances in earnings from road to off it!

However, the bigger story of that race is Nino. What an absolute Hero.

Another wonky sprint. Will Mr Shampoo get relegated? Probably not. Is the UCI consistent? Nope.

It's not like there wasn't plenty of space. Much more of an issue in a bunch sprint when the big boys are flat out at 70kph.

There seems to be a resignation from many competitors/commentators that he's on another level. Thought Dascalu cold have won if he went earlier.

If he wins the Worlds this year, what is the chances that'll be the last we see him on an mtb for a while. There's no way that he can be at his best on and off at the same time, that said Glasgow next year and i doubt he wouldn't want to win XC in front of a home crowd.

I thought Dascalu should have gone earlier; however he's never won one, and maybe didn't have the confidence to do that. I suspect when he wins one, he'll know what to do. We've seen McConnell go close in the past, but now after winning in Brazil, she knows she can do it and has won 2 more.

I think Pidcock would surely want to defend his Olympic title, in Paris in 2024, then maybe walk away?? Next year is the first Super World Champs, where all disciplines (except CX) are held in the same venue. Depending on the itinerary, he could go for Road, ITT, XCC & XCO......

It is quite incredible that a 22 year old can rock up, win both WC races having not raced since the Olympics, and then sod off again. He seems to not get the attention that VDP or WVA get despite being just is capable and arguably more versatile. Could have the most obscene palamres at the end of his career.

He mentioned how stressful the Olympics were last time so wouldn't surprise me if he doesn't go back. INEOS must be saying to him you've had your fun, now help us for a few years. He clearly wasn't up to scratch in the classics yet murdered the MTB, tells me he isn't quite focused on the road yet.

Yes, he had a Dumoulin moment in Milan I think. Seems he has digestive issues on longer rides?

What an awesome stage at the Giro today. Bora ripping it to shreds, Carapaz riding like it’s a one day race and Yates showing that he’s not ready to go home just yet.

So pleased for Hindley. After the 2020 Giro, I thought he’d disappear forever and he almost did. I’m not sure who he pissed off at Sunweb but the move to Bora has probably saved his career
