Probably the only 'sport' than men and women can compete on equal terms.

Although I only consider it a sport if you have to change/remove your footwear to do it.

The up and down of MVG versus the consistency of Snakebite, I think it's a decent match up and potentially closer than most. MGV does have previous for switching off and having dips in the long format, it depends on how far he is infront when he has one for me and if Snakebite is close enough to take full advantage.

Overall, I think the standard has dropped this year - cut through the hyperbole from Sky and the smaller wires and it's not that great at the moment.
Fair play, you called that one right, didn't think Snakebite stood a chance, he's always bottled it previously but he looked cool as a cucumber.

TL:DR

Fallon Sherrock has done well. Is she allowed to compete equally alongside men?

Are darts competitions open to all?
She doesn't have a Tour card, so no she can't.

I'd say pool and snooker women could compete against men, although for some of the power shots they'll be at a disadvantage. Darts isn't about strength obviously.

Is poker a sport or a game? Another one where women can complete with the men, as has been proved.

Since posting the question about Fallon Sherrock i have been having a look at some of the stuff about darts.

There seems to be little danger that darts is going to be considered too upmarket, is there?

Does anybody ever think that be a little bit too - well, council - to be frank?

Looks like the BDO dumping Lakeside, in favour of chasing bigger crowds & money, and moving to the O2 Arena hasn't gone that well for them.

I reckon one of my old work mates from a few years ago will be gutted with the move as he used to go every year. Although i think it probably helped that it meant he only had to stagger about 5 minutes down the road to get back to his house after he'd had a few drinks hehe

I watched 10 minutes of the BDO yesterday. That's all I could manage. It's like watching pub darts. No atmosphere, dreadful 'talent'.

Laughable that they give you the players 'averages' for the match 86.51, 83.42, etc. Until you realise that's the 9 dart average, not for the leg.

I think Bet365 summed it up best on Twitter...

Thunk...thunk.........thunk. Tweeenty six.

You'll be entering next year then, so you can show 'em how it should be done!

There was plenty of duff matches at the Ally Pally with some poor averages on show, whilst the PDC is clearly in front I don't think it's as far as everybody thinks.

Take MVG (and Price to an extent) out of the equation and there isn't a massive difference at all other than the over hyped commentary, extra production not forgetting the more 'forgiving' boards in the PDC. Rumor is that Barry Hearne did something similar with the Premier League snooker - make the pockets 'easier' and the big scores come around more frequently.

I think you give the BDO far too much credit.

It even looks like it's in a pub.

While I agree to an extent about the hype of the PDC, it's different gravy altogether.

Half the attraction of the BDO has always been it is the "peoples" competition, with the pub atmosphere, but yes, sometimes the standards are pretty poor.

It's like The Premiership v League one in football.

There should be a place for both.

Not surprising to see given only 5 days before the event started the BDO announced a reduction in the prize money fund, as a result of only 15% of the tickets being pre-sold.
