As there seems to be plenty of cricket fans I thought it may be worth having a thread for cricket that doesn't have its own thread. We have just had the U19s World Cup which SA won , England made it to the semis must give us some hope for the future.
The Asia cup is in full swing in which Afganistan pulled off a shock beating Bangladesh. If other countries put the game first and play Afganistan more we may see another team pushing for test match status.
The county season is just round the corner as a Yorkshire fan I can't wait.

The ICC Div IV Championship is kicking off in Malaysia next week. Malaysia, Tanzania, Cayman Islands, Nigeria, Jersey and Guernsey are playing.

These World divisions are great fun and you can see some real talent coming through the ranks. Remember places like the Caymans only have 2 cricket pitches in the whole country!

I was one of the founders of the Antibes CC in the South of France, we used to play against Toulouse, Monaco and Marseille, plus any visiting teams. The drinks breaks were very interesting..........drink

I try and keep up with the world league cricket, watched Afghanistans rise up the leagues and teams like USA who could do better.
What we're the make up of the French teams ? Ex-pats ?
Excellent finish to India -Pakistan shocking penultimate over from Pakistan needing 13 from 12 they scored 3 runs and lost 2 wkts. Afridi then finishes it with 2 consecutive 6s in the last over with India needing 1 wicket.

Watched the Pakistan vs India match, fukin hell what a game, thought Pakistan would take the game easily, but India then swung it in their favour.

Afridi kept cool and ensured Pakistani victory.

Seeing Kohli's reaction at the end was satisfying, especially how he celebrated when Ajmal got out biggrin

Yes, mostly expats. The French used bring picnic and just watch, or call out "Come the Whites" as a joke. We were a mix of Brits, Saffas, Oz and Kiwi. We also had an ex-U19s Windies fast bowler who was evil.

That's what you get with Afridi in pressure situation he either looks daft and is caught on the boundary first ball or makes it look easy and is a hero. Am I right in saying India may struggle to make the final ?

They've only won one match out of three, beat the Bangladeshis in their opening match, but lost to the Lankans and Pakistanis today, so I think you are right.

Bangladesh have also lost both their matches, they're playing the Sri Lankans tomorrow, who at the moment are unbeaten and a win would send them to top spot. Sri Lanka's last match is against Afghanistan.

Tuesday, Pakistan are playing the Bangladesh, that could be interesting as Pakistan did beat them in the last Asia Cup Final, but on the other hand, Bangladesh haven't beaten Pakistan since 1999, and in 31 contests so far, Pakistan have won 30.

If England are struggling against the West Indians,it gets worse because the Sri Lankans are visiting for 5 ODI's and 2 test matches.....

Think every single England fan still has clear memories of the 5-0 whitewash in 2006....

Reading some comments/reports about Indian cricket, the biggest thing that everyone wants is a PROPER pace bowler.

Pakistan have no doubt over the years produced better pace bowlers than India. Why?

Whats the major difference, I've been reading stuff such as the physique of pace bowlers from Pakistan and the physique of Indian pace bowlers.

Didn't India have a quick who could bowl at 90mph I seem to think he toured England last time his last name started with.a V ? Good question though India have produced very few world class quicks , odd considering the popularity of the game.

Yes that's who I was thinking of. Googled him and read an article on cricinfo seems a work in progress at the minute. High economy rate and he got clobbered in the Bangladesh game. That said he was clocked at 93mph so he may just need to be coached correctly.

SL cruised to into final easily beating Afghanistan. More surprisingly Smith has announced his retirement not had a great year but I would have thought he would have had a couple more years at test match level. Maybe he is going to play for Surrey ?

Surprised to see Smith has retired, great player, averaged 48 with the bat in test cricket and over 9000 runs. One thing that the Saffers have had, and still do are fking batsmen, Gibbs, Kallis, Mark Boucher etc, and even though their struggling at the moment against the Aussies, they've still got batsmen like de Villiers, Amla, etc. Also have a very good tail end, got them out of trouble lots of times, taking them from something like 150-6 to 255-8.

Best tailenders in the world?

Pakistan playing Bangladesh tomorrow, a win I think would cement our place in the final, play the Sri Lankans again who beat us in out first match of this tournament.

More than likely a Pakistan SL final should be a good one. Smith has 2 more years at Surrey , he picked up an Irish passport last year so it will give Surrey a chance for a midthirties county pro to come and top up their pension or get another overseas player in.

Yeah, I can't wait for the county season to begin, didn't watch it that much last season tbh, but I've always enjoyed it, especially the overseas players, IPL and Big Bash don't do to much for me, English County Cricket is the one for me.

What channel are the highlights on ? He scored 50 off 18 the second fastest in ODI and the 3rd time he has done it.
